  • A Step in the Right Direction-- UO Shoe Recycling

    -

We are collecting used shoes across the UO campus with our efforts focused on all 2012 Track Meets at Hayward Field. Our partners are Nike Reuse-a-Shoe and Hope 4 Hoopers. Nike Reuse-a-Shoe will recycle all shoes that have met their useful life and Hope 4 Hoopers will collect all shoes that can be worn again. Our goal is to collect 2,012 pairs of used shoes by the end of the Olympic Trials, and we are well on our way.

Since January of 2010, the Alliance has brought together venue operators, sports team executives and environmental scientists to exchange information about better practices and develop cost-competitive and innovative solutions to their environmental challenges. The information gathered from this collaboration is available to Alliance members in order that they gain a better understanding of how sporting events can be performed in an environmentally sensitive manner.

As a team of MBA students, we worked directly with stadium operators nationwide and Martin Tull, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance to perform an industry analysis on best practices and create a "State of the Greening of Sports" report to be distributed to the public.
