In recent years, fertility tech has exploded in popularity, so much so that financing fertility treatments have become a sizeable vertical on their own. Many people know that fertility treatment are expensive. A single IVF cycle can cost $30,000 and have an average success rate between 38% and 49%. Most people will need to undergo 2-3 rounds before being successful. It is less well-known that male infertility plays a role in almost 50% of cases in which couples struggle with conception. Dietitian #startup Fay has been booming thanks to #Ozempic #patients and has emerged from stealth with $25M from General Catalyst, #Forerunner #Ventures, and others. For years, Sam Faycurry heard from his #dietitian mom and sister about the poor diets of many #Americans and their #struggles with providing #nutritional #counseling. Nearly half of all #adults are affected by #chronic #conditions linked to #unhealthy #diets, but health plans have limited in-#network dietitians. Faycurry built Fay to empower RDs, like his mom and sister, to start their own #practices while being covered by #insurance. He started Fay as an #MBA #student at Harvard University in 2021 and later brought on Mark Stefanski as CTO. Fay offers RDs a #franchise #model with tools to run their #practices, file insurance claims, receive #payments, and match with patients. Insurance #companies love it because patients get #healthier, and dietitians can earn five to eight times more as #independent #practitioners than in #hospitals. A Breakthrough in Treating Anxiety: Single Dose of #LSD-Based Medicine Shows Remarkable Promise A groundbreaking study has revealed that a single dose of an #LSD-based medication could provide rapid and lasting relief for generalized #anxiety disorder (GAD), offering hope for novel treatments amidst the ongoing mental health crisis. At First Tracks, we are committed to advancing mental health care and sharing the latest research in treatment. We are excited to report the promising results from a phase 2B study of MM120 (lysergide d-tartrate), an investigational LSD-based medicine developed by MindMed.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ 🔹Rapid and Durable Response: A single oral dose of MM120 100 µg demonstrated rapid improvement in GAD, with 65% of patients experiencing a 50% reduction in anxiety and 48% achieving remission at 12 weeks. 🔹Broader Impact: Beyond anxiety, MM120 also led to significant improvements in depressive symptoms, indicating its potential for comprehensive mental health support. 🔹 Safety and Tolerability: The treatment was well-tolerated, with most adverse events being mild to moderate and transient, consistent with the expected effects. 🔹 Next Steps: With these encouraging results, a phase 3 study is on the horizon, moving us closer to new, effective treatments for GAD. The latest news to hit the medication-assisted weight loss space: Hims/Hers is entering the GLP-1 game. They now offer a compounded GLP-1 injection, an alternative to other trending medications that have the same active ingredient. With shortage issues looming, alternative "solutions" are popping up, wanting their share of the market.   What does this mean for employers?   With so much momentum around GLP-1s, there is already discussion on the coverage of these medications. New-to-market alternatives prove that there is more to be reviewed before plan sponsors shift gears or adjust coverage. Employers who choose to cover weight loss medications have seen and will continue to see dramatic increases in cost, and they should review their approach to fully understand what they're walking into.   Our Take:   These medications can clearly make a big difference; there's no doubt about that. However, it's imperative patients do not view these medications as a "magic pill." They still need to adopt the lifestyle changes necessary for sustainable weight loss. They're just too expensive to continue with long-term.   It boils down to: 1️⃣ Employers should proceed with caution. Review & discuss your needs and the needs of your members first. Then look into what options are available and what coverage could look like. Take things slow and reach out if you have questions.  2️⃣ This isn't the first, and it won't be the last headline like this to take center stage. New "solutions" are always on the horizon.
