You want to learn how to write copy that converts. What are the best writing courses?
I believe writing is a practice. Join a community—preferably one where you are the worst writer 😂—hold a writers group once a week or once a month. Get your work ripped apart. Try again. Read other people’s work, learn to critique. Ask for books to read. Find out about seminars. Your writing and knowledge will evolve in no time

What are the common mistakes copywriters make when working with clients?
Remember that copywriting is empathetic and to create a deep emotional response, you have to have some semblance of understanding of what you’re writing about. You have to understand its effect and how those within the environment will interact with what you’re saying. At the very least, you need to know if what you’ve written will resonate. You cannot know that without experience. Lucky for you, research can—more often than not—pass for experience. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, it’ll come out in your prose, just leaps off the page. And it doesn’t take much for an audience, especially a multicultural audience, to distrust. Lose distrust and you’ll be skiing uphill after that. So just research. It always pays off.

You’re creating an infographic for your client. How can you make it visually appealing?
The majority of audiences rely on infographics as at-a-glance learning. Therefore consider how your messaging informs. If your messaging does not offer learning then how can you reframe it to feel valuable in learning. Your bullet points must be concise yet work hard in a literary sense—convey as much as you can as simply and cutely as you can. Then your visual mock up must follow your words. How do I organize this visually to make it “glancible” yet legible. How do I make sure any graphics I chose convey the words pitch perfectly. Even color schemes can affect audience mood, affability, etc. Don’t take any choice in an infographic lightly as the fewer choices there are, the more weight they hold.

How can you incorporate storytelling into academic papers or business reports?
At its most basic, storytelling is creating a narrative. Academic papers are, at their most basic, an argumentative stance where a writer seeks to prove a concept or thesis. My experience with students is that they get so bogged down in the details of proof that they cannot, in the proverbial matter, "see the forest from the trees." Storytelling often asks you to pull back and look at your work from a big-picture stance before getting into the details or vice versa. It's world-building. Applying storytelling to academics, you'll find that your intentions with your thesis become more clear, not only for the writer who now has direction, but for the audience who seeks to invest, learn, and care.
