Making Wellness a Priority
by Carlandre Bussey, Sales Rep, Diversified Brands Division, Hurst, Texas
When I played college football, I suffered an injury that a doctor told me would prevent me from ever running again. When I played college football, I suffered an injury that a doctor told me would prevent me from ever running again. To say I fell off the wagon in terms of my health is putting it lightly — I was in a freefall. I had been holding on to a business card of a local personal trainer for a while. About a year ago, I woke up one morning and realized that my health wouldn’t improve without help. I was getting older and sitting around wasn’t going to change that or make me feel any better. That
was the day I called him. He showed me that I could use my knee again — I just needed to strengthen my muscles the right way.
Finding the time in between my travel schedule hasn’t been easy. I’m on the road a lot, but on the days I’m in town I go to see my trainer early in the morning, before anything can distract me. When I’m out of town, I try to hit the hotel gym and duplicate some of the exercises I know work for me. So far I’m down 94 pounds, and I’ve cut my shirt size in half. Beyond the numbers is how great I feel. My ultimate goal is another 36 pounds.
I love that I work for a company like S-W that supports health and wellness. They understand that having healthier
employees equates to happier employees. I know it’s my personal responsibility to get in shape, but the company has shown me
how taking care of myself can help for years to come.
