“I had the pleasure of teaching Calvin in a Full-Stack Coding Bootcamp offered through UC Berkeley Extension. The course is a rigorous 12-week computer science program that involves 750+ hours of in-class and independent study and teaches students a variety of pertinent software development technologies. Calvin was a very forward-moving and self-motivated student who would often learn new concepts quickly, and he would make an effort to teach himself the current best paradigms that were being used in industry. My most impressive experience with Calvin was on his final capstone project, where he worked on a team to develop an application to help users with their job search by providing statistical analyses and an interactive dashboard. He attempted to utilize LinkedIn's API to allow users to log in and authenticate with LinkedIn and also obtain authenticated information from their LinkedIn profile, something that is sometimes difficult to implement and involves many hurdles. Calvin showed great perseverance in attempting a feat like this and resolved to brainstorm and test various potential methods to execute this goal. I worked with him quite a few times during this endeavor, and he would often come to me after attempting a few different strategies and would thoroughly explain his thought process for each. Usually, we were able to find a best path forward, and he eventually created a fully-functioning authenticated interaction with LinkedIn's API to present a great final project, GigHub.io. Calvin is a bright individual with knack for auto-didacticism, giving him a slight edge over his peers. He's a creative problem solver with an in-built desire to figure out problems on his own and present solutions as a sort of story - "Here's what didn't work, and here's how it lead me to what did." Watching him grow and seeing him operate very well with his final capstone team was a delight, and I would recommend him for any technical role that he is vying for.”
