❓ 🤔 ❓ What's the best way to get pronunciation clarifications to your voice actor? ✍ There are lots of ways to do it...YouTube clips with the word mentioned, phonetic spellings, audio clips linked to the script...they all do the trick, but they also seem a little labor intensive for the client, if you ask me. 📲 Recently a client of mine did something I hadn't seen before. Instead of trying to explain things in the script with spelled out words or YouTube clips, the client just went through all the pronunciations using the voice recorder on her phone. 🗣 She'd let me know where on the page she was reading, so I could orient myself to that section of the script, and then repeated the word 2 times very clearly for the voice memo. She did this for every word or acronym that needed clarification, and I think it took her a total of 3 minutes, if that. 😊 The audio file I got from her was exactly what I needed to prep my script and make sure that I sounded fluent and confident in the terminology I was reading. I'm a fan! 👏 👉 👉👉 What methods do you use to communicate your preferred pronunciations? Have any of your methods ever backfired?

REPORT CARDS FROM MOTHER NATURE!!! REFRAMING IS THE NO. 1 THERAPY FOR EFFECTIVENESS IN MENTAL HEALTH! IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WITH ANY LEVEL OF DEPRESSION OR APATHY THEY NEED TO HEAR THIS & REFRAME! What is the evolutionary purpose of depression? Depression is your Report Card, Feedback & Motivator from Mother Nature! Communicating via your Primal Brain & Brain Chemistry, which is telling you to get your act together regarding how well you are cooperating with YOUR BRAIN’S Purpose, Impetus & Obsession which is to EVOLVE!!! The Impetus of human brain function & all human motivation is to EVOLVE! Survival & Procreation are integral prerequisites of the Evolution Process as they are responsible for perpetuating the process but they are not the impetus! They provide natural purpose & meaning but are trumped by the need of your brain to EVOLVE! People give up their survival & thus their lives on a regular basis for what they perceive as a higher purpose which is in fact them & their Brain doing Evolutionary things and trying to EVOLVE! Also many people choose to forgo reproduction, offspring & thus Procreation on a regular basis! On the other hand NO ONE & NO BRAIN DOES NOT EVOLVE! Psychology has recently discovered boredom as a human being’s highest stressor which makes nothing but sense as it is the polar opposite & worst enemy of the brain which is desperately trying to EVOLVE via Creative Growth & Development! The Report Card you will get from your Brain when you're bored is a failing grade which means you get a “feel bad” Brain Chemistry but on the other hand when you are EVOLVING via Creative Growth & Development your report card will be A+ and your brain chemistry will be “FEELING GOOD!!!” Now that this information is available Depression is going out of style for anyone who seriously wants out! “3 Chords & The Truth!” The Evolution Connection! PSA for all US based video editors: Companies like Landed is the biggest threat to our existence. Look at the copy. "Hire Video Editors and save up to 51% compared to US-based equivalents." I'm sorry - who are the "US-based equivalents??" Yeah - that's me and you. If you're wondering why it's so hard to get an editing gig - this is why. THIS. IS. OUR. COMPETITION. Why would an company hire US-based editors and pay a 51% higher rate when that same company can go on Landed and find off-shore help? Don't get mad though. This is capitalism. This is innovation. This is how the game goes. And, it's happening in every industry. Game recognizes game. At some point in the future, your editing gig will get outsourced to a company like Landed. If you do nothing in light of this - congratulations. You played yourself. Think Differently.

One Crucial Reminder for Every Solopreneur Running your own voiceover business means you're often playing multiple roles: talent, marketer, accountant, and more. It's exhilarating to have control over your career, but there’s one crucial area that's easy to overlook: self-care. Why Self-Care Matters: > Prevents Burnout: Constantly pushing without adequate rest can lead to burnout, which might sideline you from doing what you love. > Enhances Performance: Regular breaks and proper self-care ensure that your performances remain top-notch. Your voice can only be as strong as your wellbeing. > Sustains Longevity: Your voiceover career isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. Maintaining your health is key to ensuring you can keep doing great work for years to come. Self-Care Strategies: > Set Boundaries: It’s okay to turn off your email and phone after hours. Set clear work-life boundaries to give yourself time to recharge. > Regular Exercise: Keep your physical health in check. Voice acting is physical, and staying fit can improve your stamina in the booth. > Mindfulness and Meditation: These practices can reduce stress and improve your focus, making your work sessions more productive. How do you incorporate self-care into your routine? Share your strategies below. Your approach might be just what another solopreneur needs to hear! #selfcare #solopreneur #entrepreneurship #burnout #mindfulness

Writers, filmmakers, let's talk about the importance of a great logline. Your logline is the first thing managers and/or producers see. It's literally the sales tool agents and managers use to get your script read. So, what happens if your logline doesn't cut it? Your script doesn't get read. It's that simple. That makes the logline your most important sales tool. Of course, you'll want to have a great script as well, but the importance of the logline is unparalleled! So, what is a logline? A logline is a one-sentence summary or description of a movie. Loglines distill the important elements of your screenplay—main character, setup, central conflict, antagonist—into a clear, concise teaser. The goal is to write a logline so enticing that it hooks the listener into reading the entire script. While there is room for creativity in writing a logline, a good logline will always have the following four elements: [protagonist] + [inciting incident] + [protagonist’s goal] + [central conflict] How does that play out? I bet you can recognize these loglines... “A young man is transported to the past, where he must reunite his parents before he and his future cease to exist.” "A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims." "A quirky family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus." "A seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic." "During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok." "When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories." And finally, "When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down." #Loglines #Filmmaking #Screenwriters #KeepWriting

Here we go again! 😂🤡🤦♂️ How do you not know what the downstream process is BEFORE beginning editing and even before FILMING??? 😂☠️ If you aren't any good at editing, edit IN RESOLVE and just send the Colorist the exact same file that you edited. 🤷♂️🤪 I have reasons for utilizing Premiere because I'm insanely faster with that program. 🦸♂️ If you're just as slow with Resolve as you are in Premiere 😴 figure out ahead of time that you're going to finish the project in Resolve and USE RESOLVE TO EDIT! #VideoEditing is NOT one of these situations where you can figure things out LATER because you may have painted yourself into a corner you can't get out of. When you are making up the original concept of how you're going to achieve your goals with this project, you have to figure out POST-PRODUCTION during PRE-PRODUCTION. #FirstWorldProblems #WhereDoTheyGetThesePeople? 😂🤦♂️

The human voice continues to stand out as the gold standard in productions. Human voices offer authenticity, emotional depth, and unique nuances that AI struggles to replicate. They establish personal connections with audiences, conveying emotions and intentions that resonate profoundly. While AI has its role, many are now starting to see that it really cannot replace actual artists in the creative sector. #HumanVoice #Authenticity #Storytelling #ProductionValues

Video editors...what would you do in this scenario? A client gives you the footage for a video and they tell you to edit it how you want but make sure to include 1 or 2 specific things. So you take the footage, include those 1 or 2 things, make all the creative decisions yourself and send the video back to the client. You then receive over 10 edits to change B-Roll in certain places, change the music, change the title cards, etc. Pretty much all the creative decisions you were told to make yourself are being requested to change. Do you make those edits or do you tell them no? 😬

Choosing the right microphone can feel like navigating a maze. In the voiceover world, the battle often boils down to two contenders: condenser and dynamic microphones. Each has its champions and its best contexts for use. Here’s how to determine which microphone will best capture the unique qualities of your voice and deliver the results your project demands. 🎙 Condenser Microphones: Clarity Meets Sensitivity > Superior Sound Quality: Known for their sensitivity, condenser mics pick up a wide range of frequencies and nuances in your voice. This makes them perfect for capturing the detailed, clear sound required in studio settings. > Ideal Environments: Best used in sound-treated studios where background noise can be controlled. If you’re recording audio books, commercials, or any project where vocal clarity and detail are paramount, a condenser mic is likely your best bet. 🎙 Dynamic Microphones: Robust and Reliable > Durability and Versatility: Dynamic mics are the workhorses of the microphone world. Less sensitive than condensers, they are excellent at handling high sound pressure levels and are less likely to pick up background noises. > On-the-Go Recording: Perfect for live performances, interviews, or any situation where you need a reliable and tough microphone that can handle less-than-ideal acoustic environments. 🎙Choosing the Right Mic The choice between a condenser and a dynamic mic often comes down to the specifics of your project and environment: > Studio Work: Lean towards a condenser mic for its audio fidelity and sensitivity. > Field Recordings and Live Settings: Opt for a dynamic mic for its ruggedness and ability to reject unwanted sounds. Have you found one type of mic that suits your voice and style better? Or do you switch based on the project? Share your mic preferences and tips for making the most of your choice. #condensermic #dynamicmic #voiceoverartist #microphones #audioartist #voartist

I'm not here to steal your clients. 🙄 Some people in the industry won't connect with fellow voice actors for that reason. Fear that someone will try to steal their clients. 🔹I choose to believe that connecting with more people in my industry will always be a good thing. 🔹I choose to believe that there's enough work to go around, and if one of my clients meets someone through me that's right for a project, so be it. 🔹I choose to believe that connecting with other voice actors is just as important as connecting with potential clients (I've probably gotten more work through being referred by fellow voice actors than I have from just being on LinkedIn). The algorithm likes people to be connected. 🫱🏼🫲🏿 So connect. Talent manager Marc Guss has said it over and over again in his industry chats: connect with as many people as you can. A friend once said he was hesitant to connect with people on LinkedIn, even people that he had gone to school with or worked with. He said he didn't want them to think he wanted something from them. Personally, I think that's the wrong attitude to have toward this whole thing. Flip that script: Connect with people with the intention of being helpful in whatever way you can. As actress Jona Xiao said in a presentation I once saw her give: "Be a go-giver." Sometimes, that might mean trading your skills or services for money. Other times, it might mean connecting someone else to a business opportunity that will not benefit you directly. Just making money is not the point. Nurture relationships. Create good relationships, connect with the energy of giving instead of needing, and you will build an amazing business. ➡️ Do you avoid connecting with certain people in your industry? If so, why? ➡️ Have you ever been helped by someone in your industry just from connecting with them on social media? #connecting #networking #voiceover #giving
