The Intriguing Differences in Exodus 1:22: Greek vs. Hebrew Translations In Exodus 1:22, there's a fascinating difference between the Greek and Hebrew translations. The Hebrew text reads, "Then Pharaoh commanded his people, 'Every son that is born you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.'" In contrast, the Greek translation is more concise: "Every son that is born you shall cast into the Nile." This discrepancy lies in the command's specificity. The Hebrew version specifies that every son born should be cast into the Nile, while the Greek translation omits the phrase "to whom" or "that is born to the Hebrews." Why does the Hebrew text lack this specification? One interpretation suggests it highlights Pharaoh's foolishness by omitting the clarification, portraying him as an inept ruler issuing commands without considering the consequences or specifying targets. On the other hand, the Greek translation, along with the Aramaic and Samaritan Pentateuch, includes "to the Hebrews" to ensure clarity. This logical clarification makes the command's intended recipients clear. Based on this analysis, it seems the Hebrew text is the original reading, emphasizing Pharaoh's foolishness, while the Greek translation and other versions add logical clarifications. The Vatican just issued stricter criteria for judging the validity of alleged “supernatural” events. From now on, judgments: (A) will no longer rest in the hands of Bishops or local church officials, only the Vatican itself; (B) will be extra strict in winnowing out legitimate claims from those motivated by “profit, power, fame, social recognition, or other personal interest”; (C) will be expedited, given the speed of today’s social media; (D) will rarely result in a definite, formal validation; (E) will likely, at best, result in a declaration of “nihil obstat” (no harm in taking the reported phenomenon seriously). #sciencewithdrg #Vatican #supernatural Vatican Observatory Vatican City State
