I'm honored to have been interviewed in Lean In's Leadership Fundamentals for Black Women series. https://buff.ly/4eaojpc While Juneteenth celebrates some of progress made in this country, we still have a ways to go. Black women still earn 63.7 cents for every dollar earned by White men. A McKinsey study shows a significant decline in promotions rates for Black women in the last couple years; we are promoted at only half the rate as all men. We still need to advocate for ourselves when it comes to promotions and raises. Check out the "How to get the recognition you deserve at work" segment below for powerful tips as we continue to navigate these challenges.

"Unapologetically Leading: The Black Women's Mixtape" is more than a platform, it’s a vibe and a community where we celebrate the stories and journeys of Black women leaders. Through centering their narratives, we aim to inspire connections and uplift voices that are often overlooked or stereotypically defined. "Unapologetically Leading" amplifies Black women by giving them space to take center stage and own their narratives and how they are shown to the world. Why the play on the word mixtape? Because we hope to curate an authentic and transparent look at their experiences, perspectives, and insights, noting that each narrative will be different, similar to the diverse tracks on your favorite album/mixtape. Ultimately, "Unapologetically Leading: The Black Women's Mixtape" isn't just about sharing stories; it's about reclaiming agency, and redefining what it means to lead unapologetically as a Black woman in today's world. In 30 days, my book BEING BLACK IN AMERICA’S SCHOOLS will be officially released.  I cannot wait for the world to read this book. For almost 4 years, I have been on a journey to tell a necessary and powerful story to the world.    Every day there are millions of children in our education system, specifically Black and Brown, who have been made to believe a false narrative that they cannot succeed, that they have no rightful place in our schools or our society; they have been pushed to the margins. This has happened through the structural design of our schools, curricular choices, daily interpersonal interactions, policies, practices, and more. Now it’s time to tell that story, shedding light on the inherent injustices within our system while uncovering the psychological and emotional impact it causes. And most importantly, now it’s time to inspire us all to action to improve America’s education system together. If not now, then when?     Check out the book trailer! With local accountability, teachers focus on helping students develop durable skills through each student’s interests, passions, and aspirations.
