The STEAM Center will be a showcase for what 21st century education looks like in practice.

Within this 4,630 SF revolutionary Learning Center, teachers have the ability to incorporate teaching and learning methods into the curriculum units that could not be adequately delivered in a traditional classroom. This will be the place where education practice and spatial design work in harmony. It will demonstrate how these new teaching methods benefit from spaces specifically designed to fit a new 21st century model of education.

“STEAM” is the fusion of the newly emerging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum with Art and Design. John Maeda, former President of the Rhode Island School of Design pointed out that Apple, under the late Steve Jobs was the best example of how a STEAM approach drives innovation. Jobs pointed out to his biographer Walter Isaacson that “When you add Art to STEM you get STEAM, and then things start moving”.

To create a true STEAM curriculum we have proposed a suite of multi-disciplinary learning centers that enable teachers to expose students to an array of learning modalities including inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, project based learning, team collaboration, problem solving and creativity.
