Accounting for the cost of US health care: A new look at why Americans spend more
McKinsey Global Institute
This report offers a comprehensive analysis of US health care costs and value and pinpoints where that extra spending occurs. Among the report's various findings, this report concludes that the United States spends $650 billion more on health care than one would expect based on the nation’s wealth and the experience of other OECD countries. Of this amount, two-thirds of above expected spending is attributable to outpatient care, which includes same-day hospital and physician office visits.
