“I worked with Bill Brower at Liberty Mutual when I was a Regional Appraising Manager. At that time, Bill was AVP of Auto Physical Damage Claims. Bill’s approach to managing APD claims was quite different from our practices when he joined Liberty Mutual. I was impressed with the way Bill shared his vision for our claim’s operation. This was very inspiring to all of us who were at times reluctant to adopt Bill’s approach to improving results. In just a few months, the leadership team began to see real proof of the progress not only in our appraisal metrics but in our accuracy and paid loss trends. This inspired us even more and soon the ball was rolling. The team began to buy into the strategy to improve our appraisal quality. Over a short time, our national appraisal team improved our loss ratio over 9% while also improving customer service results. These changes resulted in an appraisal operation that achieved top 5 rankings based on appraisal metrics when compared to peer companies from comparisons we viewed from the two largest appraisal software providers. Bill successfully took a good appraisal operation and made it great. Even though it was not easy for the operation to make the changes, Bill’s unique way of communicating at every level helped bring people on board even when many were very reluctant to change.
