Here's how you can retain top talent in your organization as an executive.
In my experience, you should start with two things: 1. Why do some of our people stay? and 2. What is our true, overall retention health? We utilize a system called "Why do you stay?" as a retention tool and a talent attraction tool. The key is that it was developed by our in-house psychologist to collect the information in an unbiased way - the participants have no idea about what the questions are pointing to, and so it gives us a very clear, true picture of where we are now, as well as how to improve our employee retention. What keeps the best, attracts the rest. There is no point in adding benefits without knowing if those are the real gaps or if these benefits will actual move the needle - you need a retention health scorecard.

How can you design a fair and transparent selection process?
I agree, but I would take it a step further. It’s important to agree on requirements, qualifications, experiences, proven successes, and most importantly competencies. But then it’s important to build a scorecard to include the competencies, the cultural fit, the team fit, and then tie the scorecard to financial success. This will ensure unbiased selection and result in the best fit candidate, versus simply running a beauty contest.
