May 28, 2024- Synoptic Data, a Public Benefit Corporation signed a two-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with NOAA’s National Weather Service and Grand Sky Airfield Operations, LLC, to deploy uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) to gather and evaluate the upper air data to determine how it could aid in weather forecasting. The research project will take place at the GrandSKY Flight Operations Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota and gather weather data up to an altitude of 16,900 feet. Real-time data is a necessity for weather forecasting and meteorologists are continuing to improve their accuracy. Ongoing research projects allow the National Weather Service to learn more about our atmosphere and use the information for better forecasts and warnings. NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration announced a new research effort to study how upper air data from Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) can aid in forecasting. Synoptic Data is participating in this CRADA (Cooperative Research & Development Agreement) by providing data storage and delivery to the National Weather Service. "The federal government has outlined at least $2.8 billion in planned investments in technology systems and policy development over the next four years, eclipsing last year's $2 billion. $580.3 million over four years, and $139.6 million a year after, for Services Australia to sustain and keep developing the myGov platform.   $448.7 million over 11 years to "establish Australia’s partnership with the United States on the next generation of the Landsat satellite earth observation program (Landsat Next)". $466.4 million in equity and loans to go to PsiQuantum to build a quantum computer in Queensland. $288.1 million over four years to boost adoption of Digital ID.   $206.4 million over four years, and $7.2 million a year after, to "improve the data capability and cyber security" of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), and "to continue the stabilisation of business registers and modernisation of legacy systems".    $196.8 million over three years to support the delivery of the 2026 Census, "including ensuring safe collection and storage of Census data, activities to increase engagement and participation and facilitating access to the Census through myGov."   $187.8 million over four years, and $11.1 million a year after, "to upgrade ICT and security at DFAT premises".   $174.5 million over two years for ICT infrastructure in Aged Care that is "needed to implement the new Support at Home Program and Single Assessment System from July 1 2025." $161.3 million over four years to develop and implement a National Firearms Register.   $160.7 million over four years, and $24.6 million a year after, to upgrade the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s IT systems and improve cyber security, among other outcomes.   $145.4 million over two years from 2024–25 to maintain the National Measurement Institute’s core scientific measurement and ICT capabilities.   $83.9 million over two years "to boost fraud detecting IT systems at the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)". $78.7 million for upgrades to ICT to enable the ATO "to identify and block suspicious activity in real time".   $68.6 million over five years to increase resourcing for the digital services contact centre for people using Workforce Australia Online services.   $68 million for a range of First Nations digital inclusion programs, including $40 million "to roll out community wi-fi in remote communities"; $22 million for a "First Nations Digital Support Hub and a network of digital mentors to increase access to online services and improve digital literacy and online safety among First Nations people"; and $6 million "to improve national data collection on First Nations digital inclusion."

Every year, the U.S. government directs billions of dollars into priority technology areas. For example, the FY2025 budget includes $3B+ for “Artificial Intelligence.” As disparate USG stakeholders prepare to direct billions of dollars into a given technology area, like #AI, it is essential that they have transparent information about how much federal funding has flowed into that domain historically; what USG stakeholders have directed those investments; and what external entities (companies, universities, research institutions, nonprofits, etc.) have received those funds, at the prime and sub-award levels.  SHELDON’s Federal Spend Reports (FSRs) are designed to do just that. Development for SHELDON was funded by the United States Air Force, US Navy, and Defense Technical Information Center Technical Background for SHELDON FSRs The process for generating an FSR involves developing a set of terms to describe the topic of interest alongside SMEs, feeding these terms into the DTIC thesaurus to identify related terms, and refining as needed. We then identify direct incidences of these terms across the SHELDON dataset and populate our templated report (designed in partnership with the Air Force). SHELDON’s master dataset joins salient government and government-adjacent data sources related to historic and future USG investment; the entities that work with the USG; USG solicitations, and more.  When it comes to the information contained in our FSRs, it’s important to note that we have all of the underlying data– so in the case of AI, for the $43.6B+ in federal funding we identified, we have all of the underlying data related to the thousands of “awardees” that received these monies, and the thousands of awarding offices that made these awards.

When we talk about #Space #Logistics, it's important to know that Industry, such as Intelsat and Northrop Grumman, have already started and everyone can learn from these lessons and accelerate capability. Don't waste money and time on long studies and further analysis of the problem. #JustDoIt

The Army is moving forward with yet another MOSA platform, announcing the approval of the characteristics it is looking for in its Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (FTUAS). FTUAS, designed to replace the Shadow UAS, will be designed using MOSA principles to allow for maximum flexibility. In the words of Lt. Gen. Karl Gingrich, Army G-8, “The goodness about FTUAS is going to be the plug-and-play things…that you can put on it. The ability to put on a network extension, the ability to put a, potentially in the future, lethal payload. EO-IR sensors, EW, etc.”. Really great article on Space! Highlights Rocket Lab and their mission of small launches their Electron rocket has filled. It goes on to discuss the Neutron that is a medium lift vehicle. Rocket lab focuses on the taxi service where it takes individual payloads to specific orbits, but the new Neutron rocket is meant to compete with SpaceX and its Falcon 9. The article further discussed start ups, such as Relativity Space and ABL Space Systems. I was quoted around the maturity of businesses in this segment and discussed M&A activity. I highlighted that, "... for a company to be a consolidation target it needs some enterprise value; it needs sales and employees and contracts." I further went on to say that, "... those pure-play space companies, they are going to have a harder time because it is a slower cycle, versus a company that gets into space with a diversified book of business and will probably be more successful." #aerospace #space #mergersandacquisitions #thefactorydoctor https://lnkd.in/gsNrw2cA
