The lives of the youth and families served by LifeBridge have been deeply impacted by trauma, poverty, and a lack of educational opportunity. One in every three children in Bridgeport lives in poverty. The lives of the youth and families served by LifeBridge have been deeply impacted by trauma, poverty, and a lack of educational opportunity. One in every three children in Bridgeport lives in poverty. Bridgeport is the largest city in the state and the 5th poorest with an unemployment rate of almost 12% compared to less than 6% for Connecticut. By the time a child reaches adulthood they have already experienced two to three trauma-related events in a city where the crime rate is 36% of the State of Connecticut as a whole. Over 11% of youth ages 18-24 have not graduated from high school. Every study shows youth in Bridgeport schools are not meeting standardized performance measures. Our goal at LifeBridge is to help youth and their families become resilient — to be able to persevere against these odds and be successful. As young people grow into resilient adults, their communities become stronger as a result. As we change the lives of those we serve for the better, we will ultimately change the neighborhoods they live in — and that is lasting impact.

The Incident Command officially opened on Thursday, May 13, 2016. At 5:15 am the patient move began supporting the opening of the University Hospital Tower to handle any questions or issues related to the move and the opening of the University Tower. The Incident Command was the center for communication during the move. All information and communications were filtered through the Incident Command, and information was disseminated to the responsible teams. Patient Safety during the move was of the utmost important to our organization. The goal for UConn Health’s move into the University Tower was achieved with zero Serious Safety Events. The patient move was completed by 11:30 am. All staff and patients were safe and sound!

We are very excited to announce our first surgical case in the University Tower went exceptional well and allowed the Chase Family Surgical Center to move one day ahead of schedule.

The evidence of our improved patient care environment was immediate. Many patients either had their beds turned or preferred to sit in the in-room lounge chairs to gain access to the sunshine, the sunset and the beautiful views from their large windows.

THANK YOU: To Bioscience CT. This would not have been possible without the Governor and LT. Gov. and General Assembly’s Help! To more than 300 hospital leadership, doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers for making this Move Day possible. To all the workers, Turner, and Jacobs.
