This initiative was a mutual engagement of business leaders and the EU to create a culture of business-education partnerships that will ensure that tertiary education graduates have skills that are required by the current and future industries' needs in such a way close the gap between lack of talent and unemployment. Within the context of this initiative, I have worked with global multinational corporations executives on several sub-projects, among which the Internships Guide Framework that was adopted by the European Counties state education system, as well as the restructuring of the educational curriculum of distinguished European Universities. Several of the products of work of this team became EU Directives and were incorporated into state bills.

Internships have a key role to play in matching youth employment with business needs. They are essential in bridging any skills gap between education and the labor market. There are though challenges in the design of Internships programs, in order for them to successfully fulfill these needs.
For this reason, a collaborative project was led by the European Youth Forum, the platform of the national youth councils and international non-governmental youth organizations in the European Union. The aim of the project was to address this gap and provide to employers, who are interested in setting up internship schemes (or who would like to improve the internship opportunities they offer to young people), a guideline tool in order to optimally do so.
I was honored to be among the ones that participated in this project from companies that included my employer, TITAN as well as AbbVie, The Adecco Group, Microsoft, European Public Affairs Consultancies’ Association, EUK Consulting, as partners in this project. I had the chance to contribute to its outcome and learn from the other project partners. The projected involved an exchange of best practices and input from the other companies that partnered to this effort.
The outcome of this project is the ‘Employer’s Guide for Quality Internships’. It is a how-to tool, offering best practices and tips, in order to help companies in providing internships that are of value to Europe’s young people.
The Guide was officially launched in 2015 and Martin Schulz, the then President of the European Parliament and Marianne Thyssen, then European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility introduced the Guide at European Union level.
