Proctor in 1909. He had a dream that a park could do as much for South Utica as Central Park was doing for New York City. He hired a famous landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead, who had designed Central Park, to plan the roads and scenic walkways in Roscoe Conkling Park. The Zoo has grown from its small…

    The Utica Zoo has served the region for over 100 years. Located in Roscoe-Conkling Park, the zoo is part of a recreational complex made possible by the donation of land from Thomas R. Proctor in 1909. He had a dream that a park could do as much for South Utica as Central Park was doing for New York City. He hired a famous landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead, who had designed Central Park, to plan the roads and scenic walkways in Roscoe Conkling Park. The Zoo has grown from its small beginnings with three fallow deer in 1914, to its present collection of over 200 animals. Of the 80 acres of land set aside for the zoo’s use, 40 are presently developed. The mission of the Utica Zoo is to foster public understanding and appreciation of wildlife species and their ecosystems through education, conservation and recreation. The Utica Zoo will be a place that inspires an understanding of and appreciation for animals and nature.

    The Christopher Donalty CURE Benefit honors the memory of Christopher Donalty who died on February 21, 2002 of Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

    Christopher, the son of Barry and Jeanne Donalty, was born and raised in Utica, New York, graduated tenth in his class from Proctor High School in 1998, and was a star baseball player for both the Proctor Raiders and Utica Post’s American Legion team.

    The Christopher Donalty CURE Benefit honors the memory of Christopher Donalty who died on February 21, 2002 of Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

    Christopher, the son of Barry and Jeanne Donalty, was born and raised in Utica, New York, graduated tenth in his class from Proctor High School in 1998, and was a star baseball player for both the Proctor Raiders and Utica Post’s American Legion team.

    Christopher was not only a star on the baseball field, but a star in many people’s lives. He was big in stature and personality. He made people laugh, and everyone loved being around him.

    Christpher was 21 years old and a candidate for a degree in business administration from Stetson University when he died from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

    For the sixth time, Christopher’s family and friends are joining together to pay tribute to him by raising funds for Citizens United for Research in Epielpsy (CURE) to support critically needed epilepsy research. This research offers hope to those who are affected with this debilitating disease.

    The 2013 Christopher Donalty CURE Benefit will be held on Saturday, September 7th at Hart’s Hill Inn, 135 Clinton Street, Whitesboro, NY. The cocktail reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. All seating is by reservation only.
