Karen Herter, this is an incredibly timely and helpful report. Most telecom and energy engineers are focused on deploying two-way networks and IP connectivity to everything. In contrast, this report provides strategic quantification of the benefits of using multiple existing networks to provide hyperconnectivity to demand response devices. Well done!!!

When is a utility NOT a utility, and how can they affect massive change for EV charging optimization at scale? In California, one of the largest Community Choice Aggregators (#CCA) is MCE which provides retail electricity to nearly 1.5 million residential and business customers in the Bay Area. Our company, ev.energy, provides MCE and its customers with a method to ensure that EV charging happens 1) to avoid stress on the electric grid and 2) when the most abundant renewable energy is available. In the video here, MCE's customers explain in their own words how the ev.energy app allows them to "set it and forget it" to optimize charging to keep electricity bills as low as possible, while keeping their EV charged and ready to go when they need it. We need these initiatives in India soon : In 2021, the California Public Utilities Commission issued a mid-term reliability (MTR) mandate requiring utilities to procure 1,000 MW of non-weather-dependent, non-battery, zero-emission energy to increase the reliability of the state’s electric grid. This decision catalyzed demand for geothermal, which provides firm, carbon-free power, filling gaps left by weather-dependent renewables like solar and wind. https://lnkd.in/dTkRDs2P

As forecast, today's energy prices in California were pretty low, and they're staying lower in the real-time market as I write this. As we head into the hotter week, look for higher prices and demand response events before cleaner energy returns on the 4th.

The growth rate of #distributedenergyresources is expected to soar in the next 5 years with a projected 217GW of new resources joining US grids. These resources will require aggregation and coordination by #VPP platforms. California, once a leader in solar panel adoption, hit a roadblock with the introduction of a new Net Metering policy at exactly this time in 2023. Because of that, the California solar market has changed significantly over the last year: - 69% of installers report lower sales  - The average installer has laid off at least 5 workers - 76% of companies are concerned about their ability to meet their cashflow California Solar & Storage Association CEO states: “Solar companies are working harder than ever to stay afloat, but our market has been set back 10 years, and the state continues to throw up obstacle after obstacle to the adoption of solar and storage. It’s like a Bizzaro World out here.” One thing remains true, though: The high cost of electricity in California will keep solar as a viable option for homeowners, even if they will not be getting paid for their excess energy. As data suggests, solar, battery and flexible power generation thru gas are emerging as preferred technology pathways for decarbonization of energy. I think wind is a bit behind because of significant high capex and current high interest rate regime. However, I believe that with correction in price discovery in CFD contracts reflecting the adjustment in risk and return for the investors will make it attractive again as wind offers the true scalability potential of renewable energy.
