Face-Off For Autism/ Shinny USA and Devereux Pennsylvania partner to host the Face-Off For Autism, a one-day adult hockey tournament for the benefit of Devereux's Community Adult Autism Partnership Program. The tournament is hosted annually. Games are played in a Shinny-style format, with each team playing four 30-minute, running clock games. There are no referees and no playoffs. Winners are determined by points accumulated during the four regulation games. As with all Shinny USA events, the focus is less on the hockey, and more on the camaraderie in the hockey community, and using hockey to give something back.

In 1996, the Centers for Disease Control estimated that 1 in 294 children were diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today, the CDC estimates that 1 in 68 children have some form of autism. Autism presents lifelong challenges, but together we can help improve the lives of adults with autism in our community. By playing in and supporting the Face-Off for Autism, you will help build a scholarship fund that will allow more adults with autism to be served by Devereux’s Community Adult Autism Partnership Program (CAAPP). CAAPP supports teenagers and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders to enhance access to work, community, social inclusion, and higher education. Because there is limited public funding for adults with autism, most families struggle financially to support their adult children with autism who still have significant needs.

The most significant building project of its time, Eastern State Penitentiary was designed to reshape the mind of an inmate, rather than punish the body of one. It was believed that by keeping prisoners isolated in the chapel-like cells the inner light of their souls would emerge, leading them to discover penitence. In reality, the isolation was nearly impossible to maintain, and the lofty goals

With roles in major military battles dating back to the Revolutionary War, the ghosts of many soldiers (one of which supposedly gives tours) are said to haunt this fort. The ghost of a lamplighter, a Civil War prisoner, the voice of a screaming woman (the “Wailing Woman,” said to be mourning the loss of soldiers in the revolution), and the sounds of the blacksmith shop can be seen and heard.
