Since 2020, Private Equity acquisitions of wealth management practices have accounted for over 78% of all M&A transactions in the space. Given that the model typically involves a limited holding period, and often an overhaul of the firm's growth strategy and operational playbook, it's worth asking the question: 🤔 Are the owners of these firms selling too early? Developing a repeatable sales process, hiring 1-2 key people to run specific elements of the business, and instilling a sense of discipline across the organization can have exponential impact on valuation. Transitioning from a "lifestyle business" to a scalable practice with recurring revenue growth is a process, but it starts with being real about where you currently are on that spectrum, and a commitment to moving the needle. #wealthmanagement #financialadvisor #privateequity

CFO Compensation In Private Equity-Baked Building Products Market: A Salary Survey 📰 In an ever-evolving business landscape, understanding the compensation packages for C-suite executives, particularly Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), in the Building Products market is crucial for both employers and employees alike. A recent salary survey conducted by Raw Selection provides a comprehensive look into the compensation trends for CFOs within private equity-backed companies, segmented by company revenue: up to $50 million, $50 million to $150 million, and over $150 million. CFO Compensation in Companies with Revenue Up to $50 Million In smaller companies with revenues up to $50 million, CFO salaries show significant variation. The survey found the lowest salary in this bracket to be $115,000, with the highest reaching $260,000. The median salary for CFOs in this category stands at $202,000, indicating a competitive compensation for financial executives steering smaller enterprises. When it comes to bonuses, a majority (83%) received less than 50% of their salary as a bonus, with the lowest bonus percentage at 10% and the highest at 75%. Equity participation is relatively moderate in this group, with 44% of CFOs holding an equity stake in the organization. FRACTIONAL CFOs: JWM is looking to build-out relationships with experienced London-centric topco CFOs who enjoy presenting to investors and navigating multiple funding rounds (late seed to series B). Deep experience of corporate transactions is required. All sector-backgrounds are relevant. Having taken an equity stake in a number of early-stage private corporate clients since 2021, it's massively satisfying to be able to support (and share in) founders' journeys. This works for us, as we enhance our investments, and  it makes the job of building great teams easier. Working with our investee companies, in H2 2024 onwards it is likely that JWM will support the transition of multiple client finance functions from outsourced to in-house. As can be expected, this will involve fractional CFOs and at a later date full time CFOs. Naturally, the ability to deliver significant value while navigating multiple funding rounds involving institutional, strategic and retail money will be the key differentiator. Given the rising revenues from the middle market transactions for large banks, should Managing Directors consider moving to boutique or middle market banks for potentially greater impact and opportunities or are there compelling reasons to stay with bulge bracket/megabank firms? Some thrive in the fast-paced, high-stakes environment of large banks, leveraging global networks, a suite of financial products, and other resources. Others may prefer the agility, hands-on involvement, and potentially greater entrepreneurial spirit found in boutique or middle market banks. If anyone in my network is considering a move from a bulge bracket to a boutique or MM bank, I'd be happy to share my insights and knowledge of what these transitions entail. In addition to the firms in know that are actively expanding at the top level.
