Given the bold health policy direction Vermont is heading in with its single-payer initiative, act 48, which passed in 2011 and will be implemented in 2017, I chose to work for Peter Shumlin, Gov. of Vermont. In his administration, I worked directly in the office of healthcare reform authoring two health policy reports to the state legislature and helping the Gov. build the foundation of the communications and outreach platform for single-payer to educate Vermonters on what this complex piece of health policy means for them through the use of innovative messaging strategies. Myself and a team of four other Kennedy school students will continue the work of creating a communications campaign as our Kennedy school thesis.
