It's #juneteenth and today we acknowledge the freeing of more than 250,000 remaining enslaved Black people in Texas on June 19, 1865. But there's still work to be done in the form of financial freedom and #reparations. Historically, societal expectations have often discouraged men from expressing vulnerability or seeking help for mental health issues. Men face unique challenges and pressures, from work and family responsibilities to societal expectations of strength and stoicism. It's important to remember that seeking help and expressing emotions are not signs of weakness but of strength and wisdom. Acknowledging mental health struggles and taking steps to address them are vital parts of overall well-being. Where can we start? - Open Up: Encourage the men in your life to talk about their feelings and experiences. Create a safe space for open and honest conversations. - Support Systems: Promote the importance of seeking help, whether through professional counseling, support groups, or trusted friends and family. - Practical Steps: Share resources and practical steps for managing mental health, such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, sufficient sleep, and time for relaxation and hobbies. Men's Mental Health Month is a reminder that mental health is crucial for everyone. By fostering a supportive environment and encouraging open discussions, we can help men feel empowered to take care of their mental well-being. Its Time!!!!l(Black Women Who Hurt Black Women) For Black women, it's time. It's time we stood up & acknowledged the truth that happens to us at work, in our business & in our daily lives. It is not a pleasant truth but often truth isn't pleasant especially to say it out loud when we have only whispered about it. Yet saying & facing the truth is critical for our own mental health & our liberation along with the liberation of those who fall into this category. We need not call them names. We need not express "hate" about them or to them. But we do need to acknowledge the truth about them for our own well being & the well being of other Black women. The truth we must acknowledge is the toxic behavior of "some" Black women to other Black women. The toxic behavior that includes name calling. Or the toxic behavior that includes supporting "others" while putting down women who are the mirror image of themselves. The toxic behavior that includes jealousy & sometime malicious intent. Malicious intent that can show up in your "evaluation" or malicious intent which can show up in the whispers about you to others. We need to acknowledge & call out this behavior. However, I believe we need to call it out, stay away from it/not allow this trauma into our souls but also understand how & if we can help her/them who practice this behavior. Many years ago I read the "Pedagogy of the Oppressed". Years after I had read the book, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to sit in a room on the African continent with Black women from across the globe talk about the Pedagogy of the Oppressed & how it played out in their countries. I watched it play out in front of me in several different roles I have had in my career. My sister describes her experience in entering an organization as a leadership/management trainer (Training By Design} where the leadership is a Black woman & the environment is full of toxicity. Sometimes, Black women in the organization will pull her aside to describe the bias & feelings of repeated attacks from the woman in leadership who looks just like them. Sometimes these Black women in leadership have risen to this role by succumbing to the behavior of their superiors who are often white men. To maintain their "power" & ignore their fears - they take on the behavior of their "oppressors". They may be filled with their own "self loathing" & fearful of being exposed as a fraud (imposter syndrome). Some of these Black women became adults with trauma & pain leftover from childhood & still unaddressed. Then their living in America which is filled with the systemic and afterbirth of our country's "original sin" - slavery. Why do some Black women succumb to this self loathing that manifest their negative behavior toward any mirror image of themselves? Whatever the reason - we need to call it out & identify solutions to embrace her without hurting ourselves. To talk about it, out loud & not let it destroy her & us.

Friends, this IS wild...like really. Issa jungle out there - full stop. But I want to speak to some feedback I've seen in the comments about resume and career coaches citing the resume as the main issue... Sometimes it IS the resume. If you don't know the hiring manager and you apply to a project manager job with an event planning resume, it's over - case closed. Because what I can tell you is there are 100 other candidates who applied with a project manager resume and who also learned the pain points the company is going through so...bottom line: job search will always be a competitive sport. But more importantly, please let's start saying the quiet part out loud: It's also the relationships and connections. I didn't get my jobs purely from my experience and skills...I can honestly say I just knew the right people at the right time who sponsored or advocated for me. Is that purely merit-based? Nope Has the job market always been that way? Yup Will it always be that way? More than likely. So any quality career coach or job search coach you are working with usually has a relationship building and network leveraging component to their strategy... I REPEAT: Most people likely never got their job purely based on merit. Familiarity, privilege, relationships, sponsorship, connections, affinity bias likely played a role. https://lnkd.in/g9QPaNzH

Here are some easy and impactful ways to celebrate virtually, fostering inclusivity, education, and compassion: 1. Online Cultural Activities: Plan a day of online cultural activities showcasing Black art, music, and cuisine. Encourage employees to participate by sharing their own experiences and traditions. 2. Digital Resource Sharing: Curate and share a list of digital resources—ebooks, articles, documentaries, and podcasts—about Juneteenth and Black history. Create a virtual space for discussions and reflections. 3. Support Black-Owned Businesses: Promote Black-owned businesses by organizing a virtual marketplace or sharing a list of online Black-owned stores for employees to support. 4. Inclusive Virtual Communication: Send out inclusive and respectful communications about Juneteenth, highlighting its importance and encouraging virtual participation from all employees. 5.
