Alana Sivin is a former New York County Defender Services public defender who now directs FWD.us’s efforts on important criminal justice work in New York focused on reducing the jail and prison population. Alana brings an extensive advocacy background to her work, having held senior positions at the New York City Council and with advocacy organizations like A More Just NYC and The Appeal. A proud Puerto Rican living in Loisada, she was twice named in City & State’s Latino 100 as one of the most influential Latinas advocating for policy changes in New York. She also has appeared on programs such as New York 1 and Univision to discuss criminal justice reform. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University and her Juris Doctorate at Brooklyn Law School.
