More insights from a recent Conversationality -- Optionality's podcast, where we discuss trends, or really anything that makes us think about the #FutureOfWork. In this segment, John Gerzema of The Harris Poll (in conversation with his colleague Libby Rodney and with Joanna Bloor) shares research from Libby's Human Progress Report indicating that by 2035 SKILLS will be as valued by employers than a university degree. This begs the question: How will the future workforce upskill? By going back to school? Or learning by simply doing and credentialing along the way? California lawmakers are introducing 50 AI-related bills to address concerns about the risks of AI, including job replacement, data security, and racial discrimination. Tech companies argue that such legislation could stifle innovation, but safety protocols and human oversight are needed. International cooperation and adaptive frameworks are essential to strike a balance between advancement and risk mitigation. #AIregulation #safetyprotocols #innovation #internationalcooperation https://lnkd.in/dG5WBYrX

Nearly 3 years ago, I reconnected with a former Research Now SSI colleague, Patrick Stokes, as a consultant to provide an operational assessment of his small but rapidly growing startup, Rep Data. Early on, I saw a commitment to great data quality AND great service…2 conceptually simple concepts that seemed to have escaped the digital market research sample industry in the early 2020s. Seeing an opportunity to drive positive change, I joined Rep Data full-time in 2021 and got to work. We built and scaled Rep Data’s Managed Services business with some of the most talented Sales and Operations people in the industry. To accelerate growth, we closed a Series A with the great team at Recurring Capital Partners and added industry pioneer Kurt Knapton to our board. Today, Rep Data has ~75 employees with continued growth emerging as an industry leader. A key part of scaling the Services business was greatly simplifying the process of buying and selling sample…so we built Research Desk. The platform has evolved to support API integrations with leading sample suppliers and full integration with Research Defender, all from one easy to use interface. Rep Data’s Services is now powered by the most powerful sample platform available for quality research data. With Rep Data’s commitment to quality, we acquired Research Defender and integrated the amazing team that Vignesh Krishnan built into Rep Data. We invested in the Defender product to make it even better with eye-opening insight into the data quality problems that plagued sample for so long. With those items complete, I am shifting from my COO role to support Rep Data from a distance as a Strategic Advisor. I am so grateful for the opportunity to help build Rep Data into what it is today. There is just not enough room in one post to thank the many, many great people that made it happen. Working with the team at Rep Data, their clients, and suppliers has been a highlight of my career thus far. Thank you, all! Looking to the future, I am evaluating options for both full-time leadership, advisory, and consulting services with small to mid-sized technology companies looking to drive profitable, sustainable growth. Onward and upward!

Register for the free webinar "Digital Accessibility for Older Adults" presented by TPGi's Leilani Mason on June 26 at 12pm ET. Older adults are a growing demographic of technology users. As society shifts more online, the need for older adults to use technology is increasing rapidly. When designing products, it is important to design with accessibility in mind but also design with different age groups in mind. https://buff.ly/3Kq1eRP #Seniors #DigitalAccessibility #Accessibility #A11y

Belle Lin and Isabelle Bousquette assess whether cloud software companies will be ready for their AI moment. Great reporting here. Recent earnings misses by Salesforce and other cloud software firms may be tied to the fact that the AI investment cycle is still unfolding, analysts say. By necessity, the first wave of AI investment will boost the stocks of companies developing the technology’s building blocks—the chips and data centers that make AI possible to use. Shares of companies like chip giant NVIDIA and cloud infrastructure companies Google and Microsoft have surged to record highs. After that cycle, investment will go toward application and software firms, but it won’t happen for several more quarters, said Daniel Ives, managing director and senior analyst at Wedbush Securities. A third wave of investment will follow as an additional layer of applications is built, he said. Meanwhile, software and applications companies are among the first to face a reckoning as generative AI, the technology behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is starting to change the way enterprises buy and build their core systems. Salesforce and Workday, both software-as-a-service providers that expanded their businesses by selling corporate software in the cloud over a decade ago, are facing scrutiny from investors over what they have described as a tough deal environment. Investors sent shares of Adobe, ServiceNow and Atlassian tumbling after the companies reported results for the March quarter. The question for cloud software providers is whether they will be ready to win over cautious and budget-conscious technology chiefs when their AI moment comes. Since launching the Einstein AI platform for its flagship customer-relationship management software nearly a decade ago—which primarily focused on using AI for prediction—Salesforce has made a number of generative AI updates, including the ability to automate common sales and marketing processes, according to Jayesh Govindarajan, the company’s senior vice president of AI. For sales, service and marketing staff, for instance, its AI platform and Einstein Copilot assistant can complete tasks like write email drafts, summarize conversations, provide guidance on sales forecasts and find answers to customer support queries. Last year, the company promoted its Einstein Trust Layer as a solution for helping plug the “AI trust gap” for enterprises. Earlier this year, it launched Einstein 1 Studio and updated its Data Cloud, allowing developers to build their own AI-based apps and other automations in its suite of products, plus pull in their private data to the Salesforce ecosystem. As enterprises’ understanding of generative AI has evolved, more are looking to build custom applications and new workflows with AI, according to TD Cowen analyst Derrick Wood. “The big guys out there have a leg up,” said Aaron Miri, Baptist Health’s chief digital and information officer. The issue is whether they can capitalize on it.

Thanks to co-author Annie Hodgkins (Garcia), we just published a new note on How to Set Effective Value Metrics for Platform Engineering(Paywall) The key to setting value metrics for platform engineering is just three steps. 1. Characterize the audience 2. Understand the audiences goals 3. Select from 6 categories of metrics Software engineering leaders struggle to measure platform engineering success and its impact on the organization, especially as it has an indirect impact on end-customer value. This research can help them to measure the outcomes of platform engineering efforts to justify related investment. In conjunction with a note on building a platform engineering business case and an ROI calculator, you now have the tools to establish justification to pursue platform engineering and to monitor ongoing success. Forget deepfakes; the REAL generative AI story in politics is social listening! 🎧 New research suggests it's not about creating content; it's about analyzing voter insights. This could be a game-changer, especially for smaller campaigns; imagine campaigns having two-way convos with voters at scale. With this new tech, we are in uncharted territory, naturally raising serious questions about data privacy and potential misuse. #AIinpolitics #sociallistening #dataprivacy #elections #elections2024 #AI #generativeAI #LLM #deepfake https://lnkd.in/dWDa2xmM

Happy 4th Birthday The Data Chief Podcast! In the words of Darren Lee - 90% of podcasts don’t get past episode 3, of those that do 90% quit after 20 episodes - to to make it to 4 years is incredible. I've been an avid follower of Cindi Howson and The Data Chief podcast for quite sometime and have listened to every episode. As a data leader one of my core qualities is a commitment to being a lifelong learner - I thrive on it. The insight, guidance, perspective and wisdom I have gained from listening to the conversations on the Data Chief Podcast are priceless! Well done Cindi Howson, ThoughtSpot and all involved. #datachief #chiefdataofficer #datatransformation #datadriven
