Projects

  • Using ARIMA-GARCH to Maximize Tax-Adjusted Returns in Tax Loss Harvesting Investment Portfolios

I wrote this paper in a Time Series modeling course (Statistics 153) at UC Berkeley in Fall 2016. The paper is titled "Using ARIMA-GARCH to Maximize Tax-Adjusted Returns in Tax Loss Harvesting Investment Portfolios." It it attached to the GitHub repository, along with the R code that made it possible.

This is my first project in the domain of Quantitative Finance. Hope you enjoy looking through it!

  • Neural Network for MNIST Digit Classification

I completed the implementation and report at the above link in a Machine Learning course (CS 189) at UC Berkeley in Spring 2016. Using Numpy/Python, I implemented a three-layer feed forward Neural Network for classifying handwritten digits from the MNIST dataset using stochastic gradient descent and back-propagation. The algorithms achieved approximately 97% accuracy on the test set (Kaggle).

The EECS Honors Degree Program is designed to provide very talented undergraduate students with more flexibility. Honors students select an academic concentration outside of EECS. I have chosen statistics as my secondary academic pursuit and will complete a double major. In addition, students receive a special faculty advisor and engage in research. My faculty advisor is Professor Michael Franklin, who specializes in large-scale data management infrastructure and applications and is the director of the AMPLab (https://amplab.cs.berkeley.edu/). I will pursue academic research in fields related to Professor Franklin's expertise over my final two years at Berkeley, and intend to specifically target machine learning programs. Finally, I will receive official notation of the honors degree on their Berkeley transcript, and will have the opportunity to interface with faculty and EECS Honors alumni.

  • KPCB Fellows Program

Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB)

Selected as 1 of 60 students from a pool of over 2,500 applicants to participate in the top engineering program for young people interested in technology and entrepreneurship in the Silicon Valley (http://kpcbfellows.com/about).
