What are the differences between linear and logistic regression?
Logistic regression is an excellent choice for initial binary classification tasks. Its simplicity allows easy implementation without extensive hyperparameter tuning. It provides interpretable insights into feature importance and is relatively robust to overfitting, especially with smaller datasets. Applying logistic regression systematically as a first step helps identify potential challenges like class imbalance. If it performs reasonably well on training and testing data, it establishes a strong baseline for further model development using more complex algorithms like XGBoost or deep learning. Pros: - simplicity - interpretability - robustness make it a valuable tool Cons: - May not outperform more advanced ML models

Using a fine-tuned interval velocity model for improving the quality of time-to-depth conversion

Building a velocity model is a requirement for converting interpretation and seismic features from time to depth. The quality of all results obtained in downstream workflows depends on the quality of the velocity model, and, eventually, the quality of the velocity model might even affect directly the volume of produced hydrocarbons. Building a velocity model is a requirement for converting interpretation and seismic features from time to depth. The quality of all results obtained in downstream workflows depends on the quality of the velocity model, and, eventually, the quality of the velocity model might even affect directly the volume of produced hydrocarbons. Velocity modeling should therefore be treated with the utmost care to represent as faithfully as possible all lateral and vertical velocity variations found in the subsurface geology. But building such a velocity model could be a very challenging business indeed, since available data might be scarce and/or of poor quality, and geologic complexity might be very high.

Won best award for the consultancy work done on Cantarell field, and which enabled Pemex to improve by 3 folds its accuracy in forecasting the depth position of Cretacious subsurface layers.
This work and the succeeding projects in the following year was subject of a publication which made the front page of the Leading Edge in 2009
