One cool thing about reporting on AI news for the past 18-months is that I have a spreadsheet of every single piece of news I've ever shared. It's about 2,000 rows long now. I have my own personal time capsule of the advancement of AI over the last 18-months. Here's some interesting things that happened in May of 2023: - Inflection AI launched the Pi chatbot - Microsoft opened up the AI Bing Chat to the public - A Google employee leaked the "No Moat" memo - We got Shap-E from OpenAI (early text-to-3d) - We got our first look at the Humane AI Pin - Google showed off PaLM 2 at Google I/O - Claude expands context window from 9k to 100k - Altman, Marcus, and Montgomery appear before senate - OpenAI launched the ChatGPT iOS app - We got the Drag Your GAN research paper - We got Firefly AI directly inside Photoshop - Microsoft unveiled Windows Copilot at Build - Nvidia announced the DGX GH200 - Nvidia reaches $1t marketcap I find it really interesting to look back on just a year ago and see what progress we've made. Many of these things I remember like they happened last week. I really should do something with this "time capsule" that I built to better show-off the timeline of events... Not sure what to make with it though. :)

I don't usually do LI on Saturdays but this was too good to not share. For the Founders in my community this advice from Angel Investor Katie Dunn provides The How-To on introducing yourself to others at Pitch events. While it's for the upcoming #NYTW it applies in anywhere. Study it. Follow it. If I may add: 🙂 Remember investors are human, not ATMs. Connect from a place of sincerity and don't just ask about them as a gesture, sincerely be more curious and care. While you may be anxious and/or excited about the opportunity of getting a deal, building relationships and reciprocity is always the most valuable win. Maybe they don't invest in your business today, but they may another time, or may be a better match for someone else in your network (offer the introduction). 💰 The money and the match is out there. Be assertive, but patient. Remember, you're not proving your self-worth as a human being, you are already doing your damn best being where you are. You are proving why your product/service is of benefit to the world today, that there's market demand for it, that it's able to generate an ROI and scale, and why you and your team are the best suited to lead the company forward. 💪 Own your strengths with confidence, these are your gifts, but also be humble and don't downplay your weaknesses. Know what they are and what's required to solve for them, see them as opportunities for growth and outside support. ⚡️ Psych yourself up, and ground yourself to find a healthy balance of energy. Athletes do this before the game, musicians before the show, speakers before the stage. Get good rest and sleep, hydrate, eat well, don't overdo the caffeine, go barefoot outside (true grounding on the Earth), stretch, and then do some jumping jacks, pushups - or similar to take that grounded energy and lift it up into a place of confidence and go-get-em attitude and helping get everything flowing through your body. You got this. Put on the music that makes you feel good, squeeze your loved ones, and breathe. ⭐️ Last but not least, remember your North Star. Remember why you're doing this in the first place. What sparked you on this journey, how would those engaged with your product/service be better off because of your success, what happened along your journey in life that put you in the right place and the right time to be where you are today. Find the thread. This will help you feel a connection to something greater than just you... whatever that is... In sum - treat this as a human experience, not a transactional one. ✌️ #pitching #networking #founders #startups

Entering any competition is like choosing the mystery box on a game show - you might unveil a grand prize or a gag gift. Yet, the real loss is never picking a box at all. Take me, for instance, hovering on the edge of my seat about the upcoming AAPI Boston comedy festival. When I auditioned, it was with a shrug and a "Why not?"—the kind of reckless abandon you have when you're convinced there's no way you'll make the cut. Fast forward, and here I am, a week out, marinating in a stew of excitement and nerves. But here's the plot twist: Winning? Losing? In the grand scheme, they're just side dishes to the main course of stepping out there. When I sent in my audition tape, it wasn't with dreams of grandeur; it was for the sheer thrill of performing, of sharing a laugh. The realization hit me – if you're holding back from something because the fear of failure looms large, remember the only true failure is in letting that chance pass you by. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, after all. So, to anyone teetering on the brink of "Should I or shouldn’t I?" because they dread the taste of defeat: Just jump into the contest. Whether it’s stand-up comedy, writing, or underwater basket weaving, you’ll either walk away with a trophy or a fantastic story. Both are priceless. Here's to conquering fears and seizing opportunities, one wild audition tape at a time. #TakeTheLeap #AAPIComedy #NoRiskNoReward #mirandism #unapologetic #unapologeticdude

Are you going to (in person or virtually) Figma Config this week? Let's connect. I'm hoping to meet others while at the conference. If you are attending virtually, be sure to watch during the break from 1:15 pm PDT to 1:30 pm PDT on June 27, when Empowr and Mission Bit will be interviewed by Figma about how we utilize design in education.

AI is absolutely impacting the way I use institutional websites and Google search to find information. See, Google's Search Generative Experiences (SGE)... the little search result bubble that synthesizes an answer to your query. Does this mean the death of organic search traffic? Hint, no- this is google's core business and Google isn't going the way of Kodak. But it does mean there are a few changes happening. Read how to think through web updates to increase organic impressions. https://lnkd.in/gj-NrBmK

Thank you Campaigns & Elections for the featured interview in their latest article announcing the launch of Electify.us—the first new political software to come out of our accelerator, Wolfram Labs. Right now we are witnessing a notable shift away from traditional party affiliations. Voters are looking for viable alternative choices, and independent candidates are rising to meet that demand. It’s our job to recognize this energy and answer the call to empower third-party candidates with the solutions they need to win. Electify isn’t just another political tool, it's a catalyst for genuine democratic renewal. Why does this matter? Because real choice in a democracy isn't a luxury - it's a necessity. The hunger for fresh voices is palpable, but hunger alone doesn't win elections. Smart tech, deployed strategically, does. This isn't about disrupting for disruption's sake. It's about expanding the marketplace of ideas, injecting vitality into our political discourse, and ultimately, strengthening the foundational values of freedom our country was built on. Read the full article linked below and visit Electify.us for more details, but I also invite you to join a dialogue. How do you envision a more dynamic, representative political landscape? What role can technology play in making that vision a reality? How can we build it together? Let's do more than just talk about change. Let's engineer it. 🦾 🇺🇸 Read more in Campaigns & Elections -->> https://lnkd.in/gaWeKKbC #techaccelerator #startups #productlaunch #VC #stealth #incubator #SaaS #political #independents #software #campaigns #elections

The Neighborhood Studios team spent the last few days thinking about our new idea pipeline and its output. Tons of thoughts on this after being in a venture studio for 2 years. Here are some summary stats... - 1,750 new (raw) ideas considered per year. - 110 of those are given a second glance. - 66 of those are seriously considered. - 10 of those become experiments...real products in the hands of customers. - 2 of those are spun-out into studio companies. What the studio team has been discussing over the past few days is that 66 number. That's the number of ideas that 3 people on the team can dig into every year. Venture studios can be perceived as a "startup factory"...an engine to launch startups. The reality is that venture studios are a machine to invalidate ideas. We invalidate many more ideas than we validate. We touch 1,750 ideas per year, seriously dive into 66 of them, build experiments for 10 of them and only launch 2 of them. All that work turns into 2 studio companies per year that have a way higher success rate than the average startup in the wild. Said another way...startups are hard. Talk with Tapan Patel Gabe Hart Whit Anderson IV Jonathan Brinson if you wanna talk about this. They are world class.

This is a fascinating listen, produced by a couple of deep experts on the subject of AI in fundraising. In some ways, alarming...in others, illuminating. Given that I have often described my career as "engineering empathy," in AI I see major threats to the human psyche, as well as shortcuts to focus on what works in influencing giving behaviors. This chat covers both. Check it out.

What drove earned media in May? Stacker sent out 3,175 stories from 75+ sources to a network of >3k publishers in May. Average story saw 302 pickups - what's there to learn from those that outperformed benchmarks?👇 1. "Your Money / Your Life" is the "if it bleeds, it leads" for features and data journalism. Stories around topics that impact pocketbooks (eg. inflation, college majors) or health (eg. boeing 787) were all over the top 100. 2. Kitchen table topics --- make it for dinner. While hundreds of stories touched on money and health, those that outperformed benchmarks found a way to turn the topic at hand into a "kitchen table topic," - stories with easy angles for conversation fodder. Ask: what's the frame for this story that makes someone bring it up later on? 3. Timely News - Stories with fast follow ons to current events - Boeing 787 woes, college graduation season, etc - were common in top 100. 4. "Accessible Travel" - The amount of travel related content contributed to wire jumped 3x in May as we head into summer. But the top performers all focused on travel for the everyman. Less jet setting to Europe, more roadtrips, national parks, local attractions, etc. h/t to Ken Romano for lending his brain on trends, follow me @ Noah Greenberg for more insights from our network

🚀 AI in Education has so much potential as long as we don’t fear it. Customized learning plans tailored to individual learning styles could revolutionize how we educate future generations. While the risk of AI dependence is real, learning to interface with AI will become as essential as using a smartphone touchscreen. #EdTech #AIInEducation #FutureOfLearning #UCFConference #TeachingStrategies

I highly recommend checking this out. I've built a few different AI tools and use some of them pretty regularly in my work. Full disclosure, one of them is a virtual NFL Draft Scout that analyzes each draft class for my favorite football team based on our type of offense - so you don't have to build all tools for work 😁 . Additionally, I have teachers building their own AI tools to help themselves and their learners - creating the specific tools to meet your needs far outweighs the use of AI tools built for masses.

Immensely proud to see Victoria Pylvainen on stage with the best conducting and moderating the session on Bridging the Trust Gap in AI. We are now heading fast to the ethics of AI. And we have societal issues to tackle and create guardrails around. We will also head for an environmental crisis if we don’t figure out how to optimize computing capacity. Stuff like this keeps us awake. #ASUGSV #sandiego #LearningMate.
