How can you ensure your team is adaptable when expanding your business?
Innovation is vital for a business survival. Successful companies fail when management gets complacent and innovation stalls. True innovation arises when employees are free to explore new ideas and make mistakes. Our engineering team, comprised of seasoned professionals, hired a driven 19-year-old who quickly solved a months-long problem. This newcomer, unconstrained by traditional approaches, brought fresh ideas, showing how empowering new ideas can spark significant advancements. Senior engineers fine-tuned their work, but it was this young mind's unrestricted thinking that truly made a difference.

How can you ensure your team is adaptable when expanding your business?
Teaching myself and my team to focus on what we can control has been beneficial. When our cloud provider announced a month-long server migration, our product's latency increased, leading to customer complaints. While we could have spent time contacting upper management at the cloud provider, it wouldn't have solved the issue and only served to vent our frustration. Recognizing this, we turned our attention to our own system. By refactoring several lines of code, we successfully compensated for the latency issues. This approach not only resolved our immediate problem but also reinforced the value of focusing on actionable solutions.

How can you ensure your team is adaptable when expanding your business?
Telling an employee they're responsible for something, yet micromanaging every detail, differs greatly from hiring someone to genuinely own a part of the business. In the latter approach, you trust them to make decisions and accept that mistakes are part of the learning process. Your focus remains on the overall vision, while the new hire, ideally, grows passionate about their segment of the business. They invest long hours, feeling a real sense of accountability for their outcomes. This fosters a more engaged and effective work environment.
