📢 Today, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced it is opening up its value-based cancer care model, the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM) to another pool of applicants and making improvements to the current model. 👏🏾 This is a major step forward in making value-based cancer care more accessible to practices. We applaud CMS’ efforts and are excited about what this means for practices currently in the EOM and for others considering joining. Let’s break down today’s update. ⬇️ ☑ Oncology clinics that initially opted out of EOM in July 2023 have an opportunity to reconsider. New applicants can begin participating in July 2025. ☑ CMS recognizes the financial support practices need to provide comprehensive cancer care support and is increasing MEOS payments from $70 PBPM to $110 PBPM. For dually eligible beneficiaries, the MEOS payment will increase from $100 per beneficiary per month to $140 per beneficiary per month. ☑ The threshold for repayment back to CMS has become more favorable for practices, as they will now need to repay CMS when costs exceed 100% of their calculated benchmark as opposed to 98% of their benchmark. ☑ EOM will be extended for another two years for all participants, thus ending in June 2030. Thyme Care currently supports practices in the EOM to reduce the technical, operational, and financial complexity and improve the quality of care for patients. We look forward to supporting more practices who chose to join this new cohort. Have questions about EOM and how Thyme Care can support? Reach out to https://lnkd.in/g3sct43J. Breaking Down Stigmas Around Palliative Care For patients with cancer, heart failure, dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, strokes, and many other serious illnesses, robust data correlate early palliative care with reduced hospitalization, higher survival rates, improved pain management, lower medical costs, better mental health, and improved quality of life. However, despite that bounty of advantages, only a fraction of our patients who would benefit from early palliative care actually get it. In addition to other access barriers, the pervasive misconception remains that palliative care equals hospice. In a recent article for Oncology News Central, Thyme Care's medical director for palliative care Dr. Julia Frydman and American Oncology Network chief medical officer Dr. Stephen "Fred" Divers break down the clinician and patient stigmas around palliative care, highlight the benefits of early adoption during cancer treatment, and the industry trends moving palliative care to the forefront of healthcare delivery. 📰 Read the full article here: Stigmas About Palliative Care Are Harming Our Seriously Ill Patients https://lnkd.in/g73fXdvS

As Gen Xers enter their 60s, they are projected to see higher cancer rates than Boomers. Not only that, the types of cancers on the rise among Generation X are different than for Boomers, and appear in all racial and ethnic groups other than Asian or Pacific Islander men. It is suspected that this may be due to environmental changes, such as pesticides, toxic chemicals, and air pollutants. Research has also shown that obesity, increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and early cancer detection may be impacting the rising cancer rates. As we enter this next phase of cancer care, investments in cancer-prevention research will become critically important in informing how to counteract this trend. In today's healthcare landscape, "whole-person care" has become more than a trendy phrase; it is a dynamic approach to patient well-being. Brian Dorsey, our VP of Clinical Innovation, explains this in-depth in a recent blog post. At Thyme Care, we’ve developed a whole-person care delivery model for cancer care that brings care teams, providers, and community organizations together to deliver on members’ holistic needs throughout their care journey. This approach isn't about simply treating cancer; it's about understanding individuals as human beings with diverse needs and aspirations. 💊 The Issue: Rising cancer drug costs are leading to unaffordable copays for patients. Drug companies created coupons to help, but recent rule changes allow insurers to exclude these coupons from out-of-pocket limits, leading to unexpectedly high costs for patients. 🚨 Impact: Patients often face sudden high bills, which can cause many to stop essential treatments. This can have serious, even life-threatening consequences. 🤝 The Good News: A recent court ruling is pushing back against these changes, aiming for better patient protection and transparency. It's crucial to advocate for policies that reduce the financial burden of cancer care and support patient well-being. Thyme Care medical director Samyukta Mullangi and her co-author Kate Becker, an oncology fellow at Vanderbilt, collaborated on this commentary published in the American Cancer Society Cancer Journal on these very issues - read more here: https://lnkd.in/gpUuBxjh
