Cefic has published its 5th #REACH Action Plan. Developed in coordination with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) which outlines ongoing efforts from the chemicals industry to update and improve chemical data in REACH registration dossiers. Outcomes of the 5th REACH Action Plan show:   ⚖️200 companies, representing 1,172 legal entities, are engaged in the process  🔎 4,885 substances have undergone thorough re-evaluation since the beginning of the Action Plan in 2019  ✔️ Over 5,200 substances are expected to be re-evaluated between 2019 and 2026, covering nearly 40% of the ECHA database for full registration substances.  🔬 Around 74% of the dossiers re-evaluated in 2023 (over 700 substances) will include new experimental studies on the chemical or data adaptations like waivers and read-across. https://lnkd.in/etqTAC2P

#EPA has finalized a one-time reporting rule regarding the manufacture and import of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Despite industry opposition, obligated companies will include importers of articles that contain any amount of PFAS. The rule does not incorporate exemptions typically applied in other Toxic Substances Control Act rules. 🧪👨🔬 EPA recently issued a Significant New Use Rule (SNUR) for 329 Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) that are inactive on the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substance Inventory. Stricter Classification Criteria for Chemicals: European Commission's Latest Adoption to CLP Regulation In a recent move, the European Commission has made changes to Annex VI of the CLP regulation, aiming to impose more rigorous criteria for the classification of borates and ethylhexanoic acid and its salts. Published in the EU's Official Journal on 11 July, these changes mark the 19th and 20th adaptation to technical progress (ATP) of CLP. Annex VI contains a vast list of harmonized classification and labelling for numerous chemicals. Specifically, the EU executive has introduced two new notes to subsection 1.1.3 of Part 1 of Annex VI. These notes will assist in considering proposals for the harmonized classification of certain boron compounds and 2-ethylhexanoic acid and its salts, providing a more accurate identification of the hazard of mixtures. The affected compounds include boric acid, diboron trioxide, tetraboron disodium heptaoxide hydrate, disodium tetraborate anhydrous, orthoboric acid sodium salt, disodium tetraborate decahydrate, and disodium tetraborate pentahydrate. Additionally, a third note has been added for 2-ethylhexanoic acid and its salts, clarifying that the classification covering a group of substances in the same entry is based solely on the hazardous properties common to all in that entry. To ensure a smooth transition, the law will come into effect on 1 February 2025, allowing suppliers to adjust the labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures in accordance with the new or revised classifications. Existing stocks will be allowed to be sold under the pre-existing regulatory requirements. It is worth noting that this latest amendment follows the Commission's previous move in May 2022, when the 18th ATP was adopted, adding 39 entries to CLP Annex VI. Looking ahead, the Commission is currently evaluating a comprehensive revision to CLP, which may entail several significant changes as part of the EU's chemicals strategy for sustainability. #clp #EU #regulations #chemicals #borates #amendments #classification #europe #countries #ATP #law #
