Boston journalist with big ideas about accessibility, inclusion, belonging, and journalism. Founder and managing editor of Equal Access Public Media. Email me at stacyk@equalaccesspublicmedia.org.
First and foremost, I want to congratulate Disability Culture Lab on its launch. Second, I've fielded a couple of questions about "What's the difference between Disability Culture Lab and Equal Access Public Media? While both are nonprofit, Rebecca Cokley's post describes Disability Culture Lab as a disability strategic communication's firm. EAPM is a media corporation that produces accessible news products (think: online accessible multimedia news sites, accessible video/podcasts, etc.). Disability Culture Lab is focused on promoting disabled journalists and narratives. EAPM is focused on how to make the news we put out there and jobs in the organization accessible. Both are great for the disability community. We just come at it from different angles: • Disability Culture Lab is about the disability message. • EAPM is about the making news accessible to more people. As I always say, there's always room for more. More ways to address an issue. More paths to the summit. More nonprofits doing the work. I am so excited to see what Disability Culture Lab can do for the community. Congratulations to all those involved.

Great overview on Progressive's Disability Awareness Network (DAWN) Employee Resource Group and its mission, by Celeste Cappotto Babulski (pg 44). Disability inclusion at work is not only the right thing to do, but it also brings numerous benefits to organizations. It fosters a more diverse, productive, and innovative workforce, enhances brand reputation, and contributes to a more inclusive and equitable society. Disability inclusion is important to me personally, because I have a special needs son, and it is crucial for him to have the fullest and most inclusive experience in life. Disability Inclusion allows him and others like him to have equal opportunities to participate in various aspects of life, including education, social activities, and community engagement. It helps him to connect with others, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging!! By embracing disability inclusion, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive and live their lives to the fullest. Enjoy the article and other great content in this magazine! Happy Monday!! #pgremployee #disabilityinclusion

Engagement : Lessons from The Voice Engaging with fellow workers can be hard but ultimately if you get it right the benefits will follow. Every year I groan when The Voice comes on the TV. Not again surely and then one week later I’m usually captivated, urging the coaches to press their buzzer. The great thing about the initial stages of the show is that judgment is made by purely listening, engaging and reflecting. There is no glitz or glamour to be fooled by. Do you really listen ? I don’t. Often I pick out the phrases or moods I want to see and not the ones that are really important. This brings me on to the subject of disability. Have a look at this women’s web https://www.bethkh.com/ and then listen. Unless we hear the true voices in our workplace and give them space and time, we will never truly understand or be engaged.
