🔟 On 1 July this year, Croatia, the youngest European Union member state celebrated 10 years of membership in the EU. In the first decade of membership, this small Mediterranean country gradually achieved remarkable success in crossing the various stages of integration and on 1 January 2023 gained membership of both the Eurozone and Schengen area, a first in the history of the EU, to attain these two important milestones on the same day. 🇭🇷 In his policy paper, Kristijan Ležaić, Policy Officer for Ports and Inland Navigation in DG Mobility and Transport, European Commission, analyses how Croatia can be seen as a true European success story due to its dedication and achievements, having come a long way from a war torn country fighting for independence in the 90s, to a poster child of European integration only 30 years later. Even as the Vietnamese government has kept diplomatic channels with Beijing open, it has also sought to assert and advocate for its own sovereignty and rights by diversifying its diplomatic partnerships and strengthening its own capabilities. Why many people don't accept Ukraine's position: The improvement in Sino-Vietnamese relations was conditioned on several compromises that Hanoi made. These changes included enacting a national security policy known as the Three Nos, which constrains Vietnam’s latitude to “[form] military alliances, . . . [align] with one country against another [geopolitically], and . . . [host] foreign military bases on Vietnamese soil.” In part, this policy was designed to persuade Beijing that Hanoi would not seek to pose any threat to China’s periphery. Vietnam’s openness to allowing ships from other countries to dock at its ports could be viewed as an endorsement of further military collaboration with regional and global actors. Notably, such a policy goes against China’s recommendations for ASEAN’s code of conduct for the South China Sea, which aims to limit regional countries’ military ties with external powers. https://lnkd.in/dtZ4Jkj3

Putin inks decree on granting citizenship to foreigners under contract with Russian army According to the decree, their relatives will also obtain the right to apply for Russian citizenship Foreign nationals who concluded a contract with Russia’s Armed Forces during the special military operation will be able to apply for Russian citizenship, according to a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin published on the official portal of legal information. According to the document, those foreigners who left service during the special military operation for health reasons, upon reaching the age limit or following the lifting of the martial law are also eligible. Who is in charge?. This scenario is rare in diplomatic relationship among countries. A Diplomat who is so expelled, usually leaves that country almost immediately. Does this mean that all military regimes are now deemed illegitimate? If so why does France still work with other Military Juntas in Africa? France says it regards the Junta in Niger as illegitimate. I ask, who confirms legitimacy on a Government?; the people? The Military? Continental Body like ECOWAS? Global Bodies like the UN? Or are strong countries like France, the USA, Britain, China and Russia allowed to cherry pick whom they deem legitimate or not? Sure, STOP the war, leave NATO, and negotiate peace. If it weren't profitable, it would stop and the peace negotiations would be governed and secured. NATO is not a peacekeeping organization it is a criminal organization, as was proven over and over again, from the Middle East, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Srebrenica) to Ukraine. Last week, members of the Philippines Coast Guard cut through a 1000-foot-long barrier installed by Chinese vessels that was blocking access to the Scarborough Shoal – a group of Filipino islands illegally occupied by China. A tense stand-off ensued with Chinese coast guard vessels filmed harassing Filipino fishermen attempting to access the shoal. But incidents like this in the South China Sea are nothing new. In fact, this year has seen a significant increase in the level of harassment aimed at The Philippines and other nations in dispute with China over its absurd “nine-dash-line” claim to the entire sea. This has been happening at the same time China deliberately stoked territorial disputes with India, disappeared a number of senior diplomatic and military figures, and skipped the G20 summit. But the world can’t afford to make the same mistake it did with Ukraine - where it chose to ignore obvious warning signs that Russia was gearing up for an invasion. And it is very possible China is preparing for war. Note: It’s not just “possible”, it’s happening and has been for some time.
