💬 „In 2000, the quality of local Czech or Slovak law firms was not very convincing and quite old school. To be successful and to get international clients, it was enough to speak German or English and have good contacts, sometimes dating back to before 1989.“
👁️🗨️ How does our managing partner Bernhard Hager view advocacy in Central and Eastern Europe and what has changed in almost 25 years? Read in the article for CEE Legal Matters ▶ https://lnkd.in/enM2rTEw
This is an interesting and fun read from the managing partner of one of our clients, Eversheds Sutherland Czech Republic & Slovakia. And not only because there are many similarities with accounting practices in the CEE region during the last 20 years.
Some lines that show how things have improved, or not:
"Business life has become much more professional, and even mid-sized firms nowadays have compliance rules and apply them. A good lawyer now has to know the law, not the name of the judge."
And: "Even though business life and the legal world have become more professional and reliable, a certain disrespect for laws and contracts in Slovakia and the Czech Republic has not changed much over the last decades."

Today, I have successfully completed the international law course on International law in action: A Guide to the international Courts and Tribunals in The Hague! I have learned a lot about the world court and all the different bodies of international courts from history to functions and more. I hope I get to see how the new generation will lead and resolve global issues and how I can be able to use my knowledge for my future careers.

BBC News and other UK-based media outlets who attack Israel shamelessly have a new pet topic - the question of "whether Israel is breaking any international laws of war". Is BBC guilty of slander against Israel?
Here is a short recap of their antics:
* First they had the mantra of asking about proportionality in response, which was debunked as a joke: proportionality after the beheading of babies, raping of women and abduction of children cannot possibly be defined or quantified.
* Then they eagerly published without any proof or evidence other than Hamas reports, that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza.
Boy, BBC News you really have your foot in your mouth on this one...
Took them days to meekly retract their accusations.
* And now their new pet topic is asking virtually every Israeli official they interview on "whether Israel is adhering to the international laws of war in Gaza".
Most of the people being interviewed point out that Israel has asked civilians to evacuate, and gives warning before bombing.
But of course that is completely ignored, and the questions are repeated.
Well, BBC News, when you ask a question 20 times and make it the center of your news item, you are not looking for answers, you are making an accusation.
International law is not a "soft" topic with personal angles and interpretations.
Unlike "proportionality", here the answer should be clear.
So if you keep making an accusation that the law was broken, you need to provide evidence. Otherwise your accusations become a form of slander.
Insanely enough, they've brought in an international law expert from the UK and asked her about this topic.
The lawyer didn't even flinch and explained very clearly that on all of the areas on which the reporter asked, *Israel is well within the international law*.
Do you think this means the questions have stopped?
Far from it.
Watch the desperate reporter trying to find an angle, and being put straight by the expert.
