Financial Communications Project Consultant @ APCO Worldwide I Formulating multi-disciplinary, purpose-driven solutions for clients in an increasingly complex, fast-moving and dynamic world.
I am thrilled to announce my new job as a Financial Communications Project Consultant at APCO, a global strategic communications consultancy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to help clients navigate the multi-faceted world of financial and corporate communications. Thank you to James Baker and Patrick Allum for their encouragement, support and advice. Also, thanks to Will O'Neill for making the recruitment process to APCO easy and smooth sailing. ⛵ Over the last few years, I have gained a wide variety of experiences. I have studied at Queen Mary University of London and the The University of Texas at Austin; I have been on training programmes run by Bright Network and the Taylor Bennett Foundation; and I have worked for College Houses, the House of Commons and Brunswick Group. From these experiences I have learnt three key lessons: (1) No amount of hardship should ever deter you from achieving your goals. Often life does not go according to plan, there will always be failure and rejection on your path to success. None of my aforementioned roles were attained without some degree of hardship, but I was only able to succeed because of my dedication to personal development and my strong commitment towards my goals. I have learnt that it is okay to make mistakes in life, but proactively learning from those mistakes is how you become the best possible version of yourself. 🦋 (2) Use your free time for productive purposes. It is fine to occasionally spend your spare time doing something ‘unproductive,’ but I found that the best way to decompress is through physical exercise. Your mentality is connected to your physicality, so taking the time to work out your body will improve your physiological and mental health. I have personally experienced an improvement in my health from boxing, swimming and going to the gym. The healthy habits and routines you establish in your spare time will translate to your work time, so utilise your time wisely. 🦉 (3) A multi-disciplinary ecosystem of viewpoints is the best way to produce effective, purpose-driven solutions. In an increasingly complex, fast-moving and dynamic world, organisations are having to consider problems and yield solutions that cut across disciplines, enterprises, sectors and geography. More than ever, organisations need people from different backgrounds and experiences to contribute to the problem-solving process. If you come from one particular background, it is possible to branch out and learn the trade and skills of another background. I studied and worked in Politics and International Relations, but now I work in a Business and Finance-related role. The way you stay competitive in a rapidly evolving world is by evolving yourself at the same pace. 🌍 To conclude, I wanted to announce my excitement for my new role, thank my colleagues, and share three lessons I have learnt. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it, so thank you for your time and good luck! 🙏
