Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR): Europe's Path to a Trillion-Euro Industry #CDR could become a game-changer in our fight against climate change! The recent Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study with Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE)“Carbon Dioxide Removal: Europe and Germany's Role in Catalyzing a Trillion-Euro Industry” explores the transformative impact CDR could have on achieving climate goals while fostering economic growth.🌿 Key Role in Climate Goals: Beyond inevitable reduction measures, CDR is an essential part of our ambition to keep the goal of the Paris Agreement within reach by neutralizing residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors like cement, steel, or chemicals or emissions we have historically emitted. 📈 Economic Boom: CDR's economic potential could reach €470-940B annually by 2050 – this is at par with today’s global airline industry. Europe's (Germany's) CDR industry could reach €220B (€70B) per year by then, driven especially by technological advancements and economies of scale. 󰠻 Job Potential: The European (German) CDR industry could create up to 670K (190K) jobs. 🌍 Europe Paves the Way: With its tech expertise and climate policies, Europe, especially Germany, is set to have a significant impact on this market. However, bold actions from policymakers, the CDR industry, CDR certificate buyers, and investors are necessary to unlock CDR’s full potential. Explore more: https://lnkd.in/eM3zc6ka 😊 It was a pleasure to work with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE) on their recent study exploring the impact CDR could have on meeting climate goals while driving economic growth. 🌍The study highlights the huge economic potential of carbon removal solutions in Germany, particularly ERW, which is estimated to reach €25 billion annually by 2050. 📈 The report emphasizes the key role of carbon removal in establishing Germany as a trusted market leader. 🚀 Tony Oehm Hannes Michael S. The chemical composition of our rock powder: We use volcanic rocks (such as basalt and basanite) as weathering material, as these have a high sequestration potential and there are large deposits worldwide.🌎 Instead of mining and grinding it ourselves, which would be very energy-intensive, we only use by-products from quarries that primarily produce crushed stone.🪨 The rock powder meets the requirements of the German Fertilizer Ordinance (DüMV) for soil additives and is approved for use in organic farming.💡 The continuous weathering process ensures that important nutrients are available to plants in the soil, including the following:

Our CEO and Co-Founder, Tony Oehm, joined our colleagues from the Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) in Brussels to engage with policymaker and NGOs to talk about how Enhanced Weathering is helping improve farming communities and contributing to the EU's climate targets. 🌍🌾 Thanks, Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) and especially Adam Wolf for bringing together this amazing group of incredibly motivated people 🌱👏 even though the mills of the EU grind slowly we should be at least getting some usable byproducts for our ERW projects out of it 😉 Veolia UNDO Project Carbon Everest Carbon Eion Rock Flour Company #CarbonRemovalProjects #EnhancedRockWeathering #ResourceEfficiency #CorporateResponsibility

Working with quarries presents unique challenges, from negotiating contracts to ensuring the quality of the feedstock.☝ Despite these challenges, our partnerships with quarries are crucial to scaling our project. 🤝 We've contacted more than a hundred quarries to test different feedstocks and learned that only some of them meet the DüMV requirements for agricultural use.💡 Fortunately, we've now found a good number of suitable quarries for our ERW-project.  😊 #ERW #ClimateTech #Agriculture

ZeroEx is a German startup focusing on regional Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) projects.🪨 Our team comprises 14 scientists, experts, and business developers.💚 The initial idea for our ERW project came from one of our team members who grew up on a farm.🌾 Enthusiasm for the project led to rapid implementation, resulting in 10,000 tons of rock powder being applied just six months after the initial idea.💡 #ERW #ClimateTech #Weathering

It is great to see how quickly ERW (Enhanced Rock Weathering) projects are being initiated, especially in America and Europe! 🚀 We look forward to more undertakings in the enhanced weathering conversation.💬 We're committed to advancing this exciting approach to carbon removal by applying rock powder to agricultural lands to combat climate change and ensure a livable future for all.🌍

⛰️ Enhanced weathering ventures have raised $143m across >20 ventures working primarily in North America and Europe. Enhanced weathering involves spreading finely ground silicate minerals over land to speed up the natural process of rock weathering, effectively removing CO2 from the atmosphere.   ✅ Enhanced weathering can regenerate soil health, boosts crop yields by reintroducing essential minerals, and uses existing agricultural infrastructure for easy integration. It can also potentially increase ocean alkalinity, aiding in the mitigation of ocean acidification, and support coral health.   ❌ Despite its potential, enhanced weathering faces hurdles in cost, ecological impact, social acceptance, and the physical logistics of rock pulverization and distribution.   ❓ What do you think of the CDR potential of enhanced rock weathering? Who else is building in enhanced rock weathering? 💼 At CO2RE, the Business Model team (Aoife Brophy, Mark Workman and Astha Wagle) is dedicated to tracking and analysing entrepreneurship and innovative GGR business models worldwide. Would you like to share your journey with us? We’re interested in understanding more about your unique approach and the challenges you face as an enhanced weathering venture. Find out more about the work of the Business Model team here: https://lnkd.in/e6vtR8nD 🙋Get in touch with CO2RE: Astha Wagle 📝 Analysis by Michael H.. 📊 Data provided by Net Zero Insights' excellent dashboard. #EnhancedWeathering #CarbonRemoval #CarbonCapture #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Innovation #BusinessModels #VentureMapping #ClimateTech #CO2RE

🪨How rocks turn into carbon-storing heroes: 🌧️As rain weathers rocks, they release elements like calcium and magnesium. 🌍These elements react with CO₂ forming stable carbonates that store the atmospheric CO₂. 🚀By crushing rock into powder and spreading it on warm, moist farmland, this process is accelerated. 🚜 Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) not only fights climate change, but can also help increase crop yields 🌱 We believe that this way of carbon removal simply rocks! #ERW #EnhancedRockWeathering #Climatetech

☀️ The solar movement is on the rise… With the help of balcony photovoltaic panels! Across Germany, plug-in PV systems are revolutionizing balconies, with nearly 200,000 setups already in use. Positioned on sun-soaked balconies, they can generate as much power as a combination of an energy-saving fridge and washing machine!🏠 With a maximum output of 600 watts, no permits are needed, making them accessible to everyone. The VDE(Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik e. V.) suggests implementing the Regulation for Generators (RFG) and establishing a new limit of 800 watts for balcony photovoltaic systems in Germany, aiming to facilitate access to renewable energy.⚡️
