We need to get 360s right. In the course of completing tens of thousands of these reviews as part of our strength-based leadership programs, we had an up-close view of many people who were teetering on the edge of job termination and have seen them blossom into extremely valuable contributors. It’s been one of the gratifying parts of our work at Zenger Folkman. So, what goes wrong with 360s? Sometimes, senior executives don’t support the program, and in the worst cases, they don’t participate themselves. Perhaps reports go to participants with little or no explanation of how to read them and without follow-up from the manager or HR. Or maybe the 360 isn’t used to guide and inform people’s progress within an overall system of development. Yes, we sigh, there are too many 360 reviews that are pathetic wastes of time, resources, and — worst of all — opportunity. So, how do we get the right 360? 🎧 Listen to Episode 138: Taking Responsibility Is The Highest Mark Of Great Leaders https://lnkd.in/eT4tFyyd Why does one person get selected for a promotion while others with equal skills, education, and experience get passed over? While there may be several valid answers to that question, we submit that a person’s demonstrated willingness to behave responsibly is one of the major reasons. A lot of management literature surprisingly overlooks this characteristic, yet it explains many successes and failures, as well as a large portion of promotional decisions. In this episode, we are discussing why taking responsibility is the highest mark of great leadership. #ZengerFolkman #LeadershipPodcast #LeadershipDevelopment
