🌷 Elena’s Story 🌷 TW// Sexual Violence Elena had a tough time navigating multiple assault experiences. She felt anxious, alone, and at fault. YWCA Clark County sexual assault advocates worked with her for months to address concerns and work on her goals. She loved the gender inclusive support groups and being able to use the 24/7 crisis line. Elena went on to college and eventually got her dream job! She reached out to us sharing that she is now a sexual assault advocate and is excited to help people. As a mother of three young children, struggling with trauma kept her from being the parent she wanted to be. She visited with a sexual assault advocate at YWCA Clark County where she received resources for her own healing as well as for parenting. Daria felt like the advocate truly cared about her as a whole person. She felt empowered to connect to family resources to support herself and her children. Today, we reflect on the Stonewall Riots that took place on June 28th, 1969, where activists, led by trans women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, stood up against injustice and sparked a revolution. This historic uprising became the foundation of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Their courage and resilience transformed the fight for equality, highlighting the importance of inclusion and the struggle for gender equity. Today, we stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community, advocating for justice, bodily autonomy, and the freedom for everyone to live their truth. On June 26th, we commemorate the historic legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States. This landmark decision affirmed that everyone deserves the right to marry who they choose. It was a monumental step towards equality and justice for the LGBTQ+ community. As we celebrate this day, we also recognize the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights and the importance of standing up for equality.
