Burn it all down. From the Newsfeed: “Skibidi Toilet” might be hitting the big screen. Named by YouTube as one of the top viral topics in 2023, the Gen Alpha-loved abstract video series turned game is being considered for both TV and / or a movie. Its massive and fast-growing audience caught the eyes of Michael Bay and Adam Goodman, who now believe it could be the next major IP universe. Now that their studio Invisible Narratives owns the story and name, there will be physical merch on the way as bigger productions are workshopped. Alexey Gerasimov, the creator of the Toilet-versus-Cyborg phenomenon, is being kept involved as Goodman and Bay look to create a Skibidi empire. Oh, there was a day ... And despite some recent upticks in cigarettes among Gen Z young adults (15% smoke cigs weekly per YPulse's recent Vices report) -- that feels like nothing compared to my college days when billows of smoke would pour out of The Keg, Tommy Nevin's, and of course Northwestern's beloved Holiday Inn bar. That being said, that does not mean smoking is out at all. Vaping is *the* signature vice of this generation. Nearly HALF of 18-24-year-olds tell us they vape at least monthly (which really means weekly, let's be honest). No, we won't be seeing Elf Bar sponsoring U.S. track anytime soon, but anti-smoking activists definitely have a marathon ahead of them. #genzvices #marketresearch #vaping #smoking

📸 But who's going to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa in our vacation photos? The latest from the YPulse Newsfeed: Posting at tourist traps is out of style. The post-pandemic travel boom has come with a new style of showing off trips: only posting the “non-mainstream” sites in efforts to look nonchalant and “authentic” as a traveler. It’s being driven by wanderlust Gen Z, who are taking trips more often than older generations and seeking out something more unique (or at least, looks it online) than what they’ve seen on socials all their lives. And it’s only being emphasized as “hidden gems” become the more impressive picture to share—signifying a “culturedness and expertise” that sightseeing doesn’t have anymore. Classically popular destinations are even banning photos due to over-tourism, so having a slightly more off-grid experience makes it one they can certainly share for a feed who will beg to know where to go themselves. (Mashable) 📊 YPulse data: 45% of 13-39-year-olds would rather go to a lesser-known dupe of a popular travel destination than a popular, well-known destination -- Want The Newsfeed in your inbox? https://hubs.ly/Q02J5Xtm0

Want to know what's up with all the Brat talk? From the YPulse newsfeed: Charli XCX's Brat is embracing a more accepting attitude towards imperfections and impermanence. The singer’s concept of "brat" defies traditional feminine ideals by rejecting societal pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, instead celebrating individuality. The "Brat Summer" phenomenon is being seen as an antithesis to the "clean living" trend that young people have adored in recent years. Instead, they’re now re-embracing spontaneity, indulgence, and freedom from societal expectations, marking a shift towards enjoyment and self-care through their social life and away from the focus on physical health and wellness. This new era is prioritizing individuality, sustainability, and self-acceptance over the idea of perfection and tidiness. (via The Guardian) 📊 YPulse data: 77% of 13-39-year-olds agree hanging out with their friends is just as important for their wellness as working out is To get the Newsfeed straight to your inbox, subscribe to the YPulse newsletter. #ypulseisbrat #brat #charlixcx #kamala #youthculture
