PRETTY UGLY

My name is Nick and I am the Founder/CEO of PRETTY UGLY. I started this company just to make stuff that I wanted for myself. I like simple things, basic colors... a basic white tee, a broken-in hoodie. Items like this are what we're all about and everyone wears them, but for me they need to be JUST right. I pretty much obsess over the fits and fabrics of these simple everyday essentials. I think the perfect t-shirt with just the right amount of distressing along the neck hem can elevate a certain look and make it that much better. Growing up I was a big Nirvana fan. I'm pretty certain Kurt didn't put nearly as much effort into his clothing as I do, but to my eye everything he wore was JUST right. I have fun with the names of the pieces as well. They all have subliminal Nirvana messages; for example… our “Spencer” Tee was named after the baby on the “Nevermind” cover, Spencer Elden… fun fact. Kurt suffered from depression and addiction and unfortunately ended his own life. This horrible disease we call ADDICTION is proven to be genetic. It unfortunately runs in my family affecting myself as well. It took lots of work, trial, error, ups and downs to get to where I am today, but I’m GOOD. I’m happy, focused and excited everyday. This makes me able to do what I love but I know that there are still tons of people that are in a place that I once was and I wanted to find a way for PRETTY UGLY to help those who struggle with mental illness, suicide and addiction. We do this by donating a portion of sales to Project Semicolon; a non-profit dedicated to providing resources to those suffering.
