🌶️ Hot take: There's no such thing as a "small" financial win. Hear me out ⬇️ Yes, hearing stories about things like... 💳 paying off large amounts of debt 🏝️ funding a bucket list vacation 💰 getting a month ahead can be very inspiring, but can also feel out of reach if you're just getting started. We think things like... 🥕 using your card at the grocery store without wondering if it'll go through 🚙 paying for a large bill in cash because you've prepared for it 🗓️ getting through a full month without going into overdraft 😌 stressing less about money and getting better sleep 🤝 being on the same page as your partner about your finances are equally as inspiring and celebration-worthy. 🥳 When you're intentional with your money, you'll start to notice wins like this happening more and more frequently. ✨ ➡️ What's a small financial win (that's actually a big win) that you've experienced lately? #YNAB #SmallWins #PersonalFinance #MoneyTips

💡 Food for thought: When deciding what to do with your money before you get paid again, don't just ask yourself, "What are my bills between now and my next paycheck?" Ask yourself... 🎁 What birthdays or events are happening soon? 🚙 What larger bills or expenses do I need to start preparing for? 🧋 What do I want to spend on that brings me joy? 🏝️ What do I want to start saving for? 📈 What financial goals am I trying to accomplish? ⛽️ How much will I need for groceries, gas, or other essentials? 💳 What debt do I want to start paying extra toward? When you give every dollar a job, it's important to focus on your priorities and keep the big picture in mind. ✨ #YNAB #PersonalFinance #MoneyTips #FinancialAdvice #PeaceOfMind

🌶️ Hot take: Future income should NOT be included in your active money plan. Hear us out... Before you prioritize your money, ask yourself two questions: 1. "How much money do I have on hand right now?" 2. "What does this money need to do for me before I get paid again?" When you're only working with the money you have right now, you're forced to make trade-offs and weigh your options. There's a big difference between: ➡️ "Based on how much money I'll make, I can spend $1000 on groceries this month." and... ➡️ "Based on how much money I have right now and my other priorities, I can spend $150 on groceries between now and when I get paid again." Future income should not shape the decisions you make with your money today. Arrange your priorities around the money you have right now and you'll have total clarity and control over your money. ✨ 💡 Learn more about the dangers of forecasting: https://lnkd.in/gwHzqtaw

🌶 Hot take: There's no such thing as a normal month. Let's talk about it... When I was living paycheck to paycheck, I would get to the end of the month and say, "Wow, this month was wild, but next month things should get back to normal and then I'll catch up." But it never was, and I never did. 🍋 Life has a way of handing you unexpected lemons on a pretty consistent basis. The car breaks down. You find out your kid needs braces. Said kid throws a baseball through your living room window. You cut your finger picking up the glass from said window and have to take a trip to the E.R. So instead of banking on next month being a "normal month" build unexpected expenses into your money plan. ✍️ Future you will be glad you did. #YNAB #PersonalFinance #MoneyAdvice

The five DON'TS of paying off debt: ❌ Don't put all of your extra money toward debt. Use some of that extra to save for your True Expenses. ❌ Don't skip out on fun. You're in this for the long haul, so be sure to treat yourself every once in a while. ❌ Don't compare your debt journey to others'. Everyone has their own path. ❌ Don't pay extra toward multiple sources of debt at once. Pick one debt to focus on and make the minimum payments on the rest. ❌ Don't pay off debt without having a plan for your money. If you don't know where your dollars are going, you won't know how much you realistically have available to pay toward debt. Our full guide to getting out of debt ➡ https://lnkd.in/g37FduVQ

What does it cost to be you? 🤔 Think beyond your monthly bills and expenses. How much does your life cost every month? Take some time and think of everything you spend money on: 💵 Monthly bills 💵 Monthly expenses (food, gas) 💵 Less frequent bills (annual car insurance) 💵 Unknowns (medical bills, car repairs) 💵 Fun spending (dining out, entertainment) 💵 Giving 💵 Events (holidays, birthdays, weddings) 💵 Savings (new car, vacation) Each of these should be given a monthly amount. For example, an annual expense can be divided by 12 for the monthly amount needed to fund it. 💡 Tip: use Targets in YNAB to make this process a lot easier! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dCYiqXZf Once each of your expenses has a monthly amount, add them up to see what it actually costs to be you. If you're using YNAB, you can go forward to a month that doesn't have money assigned, select all your categories, and look at the "Underfunded" number. This number gives you a realistic picture of what your money is doing for you. From there, you can decide if you want to drop expenses from your life (or add them) based on your priorities. Give it a try, and let us know if you were surprised by your number!
