The YMCA of Delaware is for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility throughout the state of Delaware. The YMCA of Delaware meets the needs of all people - all ages, all walks of life, all ability levels - throughout the state as it has for some 120 years. YMCA Healthy Living Prevention Programs Diabetes Prevention Program A program for those who have prediabetes or are at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. The Program is a year-long program, developed in conjunction with Indiana University and recognized by CDC, consists of 16-1 hour-sessions, followed by 6-8 monthly meetings. The classroom-based program is proven that by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a small amount of weight, a person with pre-diabetes who is overweight can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes . www.diabetespreventionde.org Healthy Lifestyles Behavior Change Program The program, developed with Stanford University, is a behavior change program where participants focus on one health goal for the duration of the program. In a classroom setting, participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over the course of 22 one-hour sessions. Improved self-confidence and achievement in accomplishing short- and long-term health goals are typical outcomes of the program. www.healthylifestylesde.org

🤖 Exciting Times at the Walnut Street Y! 🤖 In celebration of #SummerLearningWeek, our Walnut Street YMCA teens dove into an amazing STEM adventure with Robotics classes led by the Tatnall School! Over the course of three days, nearly two dozen enthusiastic summer campers formed seven dynamic working groups. Their mission? Build a basic "bot", attach a motor and programmed brain, and design an arm to drop a donut onto an awaiting post. 🛠️🍩 From assembling nuts and bolts to choosing between four-wheel models and tank treads, the campers were fully immersed. All teams had their bots gliding across the Teen Center floor, mastering remote control operations. The real challenge began when each team had to work together to build a tower and a remote-controlled arm for the donut drop. While the actual drops were a mix of hits and misses, every team showcased outstanding engineering skills and teamwork. Way to go, Walnut Street Y teens! 🌍✈️ This morning, 20 young people from our YMCA Global Teens program departed for an educational and service-learning journey to Nairobi, Kenya! Their itinerary includes the Maasai Mara National Reserve, completing a service project alongside the staff and teens of the Nairobi YMCA, and exposure to Kenya's diverse landscapes and cultures. Our goal is to empower Delaware’s youth with a global perspective, leadership, and educational experiences. This transformative voyage was made possible thanks to our lead sponsors, Barclays and the New Castle County Executive, and our supporting sponsors: Bank of America, Capital One, Discover, Nemours, WSFS, and Bob and Susan Hurka.
