Last week, I had the incredible opportunity of touring the XPDEL facility in California, and it was an insightful experience for the Lean Six Sigma collaborative project undertaken by Varun Nair, Ishika De, Richa Ambatipudi, and me as a part of the USC Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management program guided by Professor Amy Altomare, EdD, PMP, CSSBB, EBP(CH) and Professor Nick Vyas, and supported by the Randall R. Kendrick Global Supply Chain Institute. As industries worldwide strive to enhance efficiency and innovation, XPDEL is leading the logistics industry with its commitment to continuous improvement. It was great to see how order-stowing, picking, and fulfillment processes are carried out, and how accountability is maintained throughout the warehouse, with consistent checks being put in place to reduce the error rate consistently. What’s important for a warehouse is to manage its workflow in a manner that is consistent, unaffected by, and absorptive of changing demands, while delivering a seamless customer experience, which the company is doing a beautiful job with. I would like to thank Evan Dean for setting it up, and Jonathan Kampp for effortlessly guiding us through the facility and helping us understand the operation.
