About us

The World Student Environmental Network (WSEN), formerly ISEN (International Student Environmental Network), was established in 2008, as a joint decision of students from around the world present at the first World Student Environmental Summit at Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan. All participants expressed a need for an international student network that could facilitate information sharing and cooperation towards a sustainable society and creating global solutions to climate change. The WSEN acts as a hub for student actions in lobbying universities, local communities, and international governance bodies towards sustainable approaches while breaking the cross-cultural barriers of campus-based collaboration. Since then, a student summit (WSEN Global Summit) has taken place every year at a different university in a different country –each of the conferences with its own logo and corporate identity. Over the years, an international WSEN team was created, which nowadays is called the WSEN International Committee consisting of elected Executive Board members and General Assembly Representatives as well as loosely connected Advisory Board members (interested volunteers, representatives of the upcoming WSEN Global Summit and of Doshisha University). They ensure the selection of the host universities for the upcoming summits and develop the network interactions -always with the goal of providing concrete support to student- led sustainability projects on and off the campus. Volunteering their time, energy, and money to these objectives, this group of students further elaborates steps to strengthen the WSEN, like a more active WSEN Alumni Network. Strengthening the forces of this non- profit organization to pursue the goals set by students from around the planet since 2008 is what WSEN International Committee aims at.
