We are proud to announce that Roberto Carmona will join the World Affairs Council of Miami as our Summer 2024 intern. On December 9th, 2020, Roberto, a native of La Habana, Cuba, immigrated to the United States and has since worked tirelessly to overcome the linguistic barriers faced by a recent immigrant. While tackling a once unknown language, he led the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School Global Trojans to the #AcademicWorldQuest national championship in Washington, D.C. three years in a row. Along the way, Roberto found his passion for international relations, diplomacy, and foreign languages. As a senior, Roberto serves as President of Miami-Dade County’s District Student Government Association, where he works to represent the voices of Miami’s 370,000 students. He is involved in Model United Nations, and is learning Italian and Arabic. Roberto's goal is to one day serve as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. As an intern, Roberto will assist in expanding student participation in the Spring 2025 #AcademicWorldQuest competition; increasing student engagement in Council events; sharing high quality international affairs content and opportunities through social media; supporting grant and sponsorship inquiries; and advancing special research projects related to Miami and world affairs. Welcome to the team, Roberto!

Very excited to share that I've been offered term membership with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Based in Manhattan, CFR is one of the world's leading independent and non-partisan think tanks on foreign policy. Since 1922, it has published "Foreign Affairs Magazine," among America's most authoritative journals on the subject. To learn more, click here: https://www.cfr.org/ It's the dream of many students of international relations, who in their research draw on CFR's insights, to one day participate in its activities. I am no exception, and can hardly contain my enthusiasm for what's ahead. My committment is to do my best to transfer the knowledge gained to the wider community via the public education mission of the World Affairs Council of Miami. On that note, I am deeply grateful to my team at the World Affairs Council, and to everyone who's shown confidence in us. A further thank you to those at CFR who endorsed my candidacy (Dr. Eduardo Padrón; Ambassador Richard Burt, Rickey Bevington, Ambassador Richard Morningstar); as well as those from my past D.C. life who helped me to advance (Antoine Ripoll, Jordan Heiber, Takafumi Yanagi, Melissa Graves). On to the next chapter! Edit: to clarify, I’ll still be based in Miami, working on the World Affairs Council. Thank you everyone :)
