When Mayor Eric Johnson asked me to serve on the Board of Directors of Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, I wasn't sure that it was a great fit. The board was very large and there was a transition in leadership that was causing uncertainty; however, after some encouragement from Dallas's workforce Czar, Lynn McBee, Board Chair Carter Holston and board members Miguel Solis, Harry Jones, Ken Malcolmson, and others, I have jumped in with both feet. To be honest, it has been one of the most rewarding board experiences that I have been a part of. The board is passionate about moving the organization forward and collectively, we are running toward the challenges instead of away from them.
Under the leadership of interim President, Ashlee Verner, CPA, the staff of this organization is executing at a high-level and carrying out the mission of meeting employer and jobseeker needs in many ways. The most important of which, is providing quality care for the children of working parents. This wraparound service is critical because many parents pass on job opportunities due to the lack of capable, affordable, quality child care.
At the end of the day, the reason I said "yes" was because a stronger workforce means a stronger Dallas and the availability of quality childcare is caring for the most vulnerable in of our city.
Rest assured, more to come from this organization as we grow and change the City.
