Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day of profound historical significance marking the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, delivering the news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were now free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a time for reflection, education, and action. It reminds us of the progress we have made and the work still needed to achieve true equality and justice for all. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history and in our communities today.
