Last week some of the most passionate and influential leaders and athletes from around the world came together at Chelsea Football Club to share a united and empowering message of support for women and girls in sport - with a core focus on the #Middle East and North Africa. In partnership with the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, WiMENA’s inaugural Women in Sports Conference, supported by BSF, Portas Consulting and Wasserman was opened with empowering rallying cries from #Rt Hon Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean alongside Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon. Their Royal Highnesses #Prince Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud and #Princess Reema bint Bander Al Saud gave passionate and inspirational calls to action for commitment across countries to focus on empowering women and girls in sport; from grassroots sports to athletes, in sports commerce and on the playing field. The message to girls across MENA from #HRH Princess Reema was ‘dream big’ in sport. ‘We are behind you, let’s kick this off’. This message was celebrated quite literally by #HRH Prince Khalid, who inspired everyone on a personal level when he said his goodbyes to delegates after his keynote speech in order to support his daughters in person at their school sports day. Tanni Grey-Thompson gave a passionate speech that moved everyone in attendance – ‘It all starts with one girl’ she said, with a message for mums and dads everywhere; ‘I always felt I could do anything because my parents believed in me’ she said, urging us all to realise that our own belief in the potential of women and girls in sport will create change for the better. The WiMENA Conference marks the start of cross-market collaborations to drive empowering change in support of women and girls in sport across the international stage. We believe in an international playing field where women power accelerated growth in talent and sports economies. Our mission is to #empower the #women and #girls behind the future of #sport. WiMENA would like to thank all sponsors, speakers and delegates for making this groundbreaking event such a huge success. This is just the beginning.
