It was a very special Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena PA this weekend, as we hosted our Crosscheck Cancer game, presented by Geisinger. A sold out crowd of 7,737 was on hand for the contest against the Hershey Bears. And although the home team came up just short in a 3-2 loss, there was plenty to celebrate on the night. Our fans showed their support for friends/family battling the disease on I FIGHT FOR cards; many donated to have their hair streaked or tinseled for the cause; purple was everywhere throughout the arena; and online auctions brought in more than $10,000 for the fight. We also paid tribute to our friend Julia Hockey Mazur, a long-time member of our ice crew who lost her battle against the disease earlier this season, by selling special 'My Middle Name Is Hockey' t-shirts (she legally had her named changed to Hockey on her 18th birthday) to benefit a foundation set up in her name. Julia's mother was also on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck in her honor. After the game fans took to the ice to paint words of encouragement or remembrance for those affected by the disease, with proceeds from the event going to the PENNSYLVANIA PROSTATE CANCER COALITION.

Penguins players and families took some time out last week to prepare toys and gifts for Valley Santa, a local charitable organization that makes sure no child goes without a gift for Christmas. The program, which has been in existence since 1984, provides presents for more than 4,000 children annually.
