Today is National Intern Day. Just as internships provide valuable experiences and learning opportunities for students and young professionals, the #WHLDP aims to equip future leaders with the center of government exposure and insights needed to navigate and address the multifaceted issues facing our nation. By engaging in hands-on leadership development and tackling real-world challenges, participants in the #WHLDP prepare to lead the future of our government. Thank you to the #WHLDP placement leads who are an integral part of the interview process and have graciously given their time to assist with Phase 2. Placement leads are the key partners in shaping the 1-year experience in the Executive Office of the President and center of government. They are involved in the matching process and the assignments each Fellow spends their year on. Most importantly, they support Fellows throughout the year in their leadership journey of learning and contribution. Assignments are high-visibility initiatives that touch multiple agencies and stakeholders. Recently, #WHLDP Fellow Kristen Cordell, along with colleagues from the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) Office of the Federal Chief Sustainability Officer, welcomed Federal employees from around the country to celebrate the 2024 Presidential Federal Sustainability Award winners and honorable mentions. ✨ “The Presidential Federal Sustainability Award winners represent the very best of our Federal workforce and agencies who have tackled complex challenges and delivered results for a cleaner, more efficient Federal Government.” - Brenda Mallory, White House Council on Environment Quality Chair https://lnkd.in/eiDBGTmF ✨   The 20 Federal awardees represent ten different Federal agencies and achievements ranging from electrifying some of the largest buildings in the country to using Federal lands to produce solar energy to buying cleaner construction materials. 🌍 To provide our Fellows with insights on how the U.S. Government Foreign Affairs community collaborates and sets priorities amidst complex international challenges, they recently spent a day at the U.S. Department of State, meeting with leaders from the State Department, USAID, and the Office of Management and Budget. Thanks to the #WHLDP Fellows Kristen Cordell, Lida Noory, and Cheryl Klein, #Cohort9 gained invaluable insight into executive leadership capacities relevant to responding to complex international issues. Highlights include hearing from a Senior Executive panel: Tracy Caron, Emily Dakin, Roman Napoli, and Tricia Schmitt, meeting with Cohort 2 alumnus David Armitage, and touring the Diplomacy Center and the Operations Center. Two leadership themes stood out: ➡️ Focus on hiring for emotional intelligence. ➡️ Put people and the work culture first. 🚨 Officially entering phase 2 of the #WHLDP interview process. In this phase, candidates will interview with placement offices. A matching process will determine the placement office and project each fellow will spend their one-year experience at the center of government on. Assignments given are high-visibility initiatives that touch multiple agencies and stakeholders. Fellows are expected to drive cross-agency coordination, innovation, implementation, and performance management. We wish all candidates luck in the next round of the process.
