"We’re a huge company with a small business feel that values relationships and people. I can see that in my ability to grow within the company," says Travis Stewart, a land asset manager based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. "In my 10 years here so far, I’ve been a harvest, marketing, and land asset manager. All these roles involve negotiations, but they’re all very different and have allowed me to take on new challenges and grow in my career and as a person. There are so many opportunities to try new things." For his commitment to integrity, people development and operational excellence, Travis was awarded a 2023 Truly Great Award. #meetourpeople #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Last fall, we teamed up with our partners at Habitat for Humanity International to launch the inaugural Weyerhaeuser Innovation Challenge and invited Habitat affiliates from across the country to submit their best ideas for using sustainable wood products to increase access to affordable, high-quality homes. From dozens of entries, we selected six winners and awarded them each $15,000 to implement their ideas. Read more about their projects and the positive impact innovations sparked by the challenge could have on the industry. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #innovation https://lnkd.in/eNhG6jhJ

Last week, we were excited to announce Raymond, Washington, as our second THRIVE community. We launched the THRIVE program last year to provide targeted support to five of our rural operating communities, and over the next several years will be working with local elected officials, employees, nonprofits, business leaders and other community partners to invest $1 million in Raymond and the Willapa Hills region, a place we've called home for nearly 100 years. Thank you to all who joined us for the celebration last Wednesday! #TheWeyerhaeuserWay https://lnkd.in/dbxKzkKz

A huge thank you to Hilary Franz, Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands, Rachel Pasternack, Global Lead, Forests & Climate, for The Nature Conservancy, and our own Paul Hossain, VP of Natural Resources and Climate Solutions, and Ara Erickson, VP of Corporate Sustainability, for bringing the public, conservation and private perspectives together for an engaging panel discussion at the Bloomberg Green Festival about how we can leverage our different forests, landscapes and objectives to deliver natural climate solutions at scale. Commissioner Franz might have summed it up best: “My one wish would be that we would stop fighting over forests and starting fighting for our forests — and in fighting for our forests recognize that everybody has value in their opinions and their experience and where they’re coming from, and that we will go faster the sooner we don’t look at each other as enemies.” #naturalclimatesolutions

Well-maintained parks and sporting facilities can be major draws for small communities, but coming up with money for such projects can be a big challenge in some rural areas. So last year, local Giving Fund Advisory Committees stepped up to help propel three exciting projects over the finish line in Longview, Wash., Princeton, British Columbia, and Grande Prairie, Alberta. These standout projects — supporting an accessible playground, a pickleball court and a hockey arena — demonstrate how employees can take advantage of the Giving Fund to make their communities more active, thriving places to live. “We are deeply grateful for our continued partnership and their dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents,” says Jennifer Wills, director of Longview’s Parks and Recreation Department. Natural climate solutions provide some of the most accessible and readily available tools for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Russell Hagen, senior vice president and chief development officer for Weyerhaeuser, recently joined Veriten's C.O.B. Tuesday podcast to discuss how we're growing our positive climate impact through nature-based solutions, including high-integrity forest carbon projects, renewable energy development and more. Earlier this spring, 380 middle and high school students convened at our Cool Springs Environmental Education Center just outside New Bern, N.C., for the 25th annual North Carolina Coastal Envirothon. Sponsored by the North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the Envirothon tested students from 15 coastal counties on their knowledge in natural resources and ecology. “It’s so cool to see the students get excited about things like forestry and just being outside,” says Blair (Allman) Owen, a planning and roads forester at our Timberlands office in Vanceboro, who volunteered for the fifth time this year. “They’re excited to compete, and this event exposes them to a variety of potential careers in forestry and natural resources. It also puts Weyerhaeuser in their field of vision.” #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #FutureForesters https://lnkd.in/eVyGH5Q5

Our Lower Columbia team recently donated a 20-ton load of Douglas-fir and maple logs to the Oregon Zoo. Sustainably harvested from Scappoose, Ore., these logs will provide opportunities for the zoo’s polar bears and orangutans to climb, play and engage socially within their habitats. When the logs are placed, two of the first animal residents to enjoy the new features will be the Oregon Zoo’s beloved polar bear, Nora, and Jolene, a 2-year old orangutan. "We’re excited to play a role in Nora and Jolene’s enrichment and provide them an opportunity to explore new materials from right here in Oregon,” says Steve Keniston, Lower Columbia area manager. https://lnkd.in/eQfCQpKY
