Had a blast shooting a promo with our amazing board member Meghan Bunchman for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council’s 21st Annual Mayors’ Grand River Cleanup happening from September 7th-14th. Mark your calendars for the Kickoff event on September 7th at Sixth Street Park! Last year, we cleared out a whopping 7,200 pounds of trash, doing our part to keep our community and waterways pristine. Ready to make a difference? Head to https://lnkd.in/gSM-3qTq to adopt a cleanup site: Got a squad of friends, neighbors, or coworkers eager to pitch in? Groups of 5 or more can pick a Cleanup Site from our special map! Spend 1-2 hours with 5-10 pals tidying up areas near the Grand River or its connecting streams in parks and green spaces. Some spots are family-friendly, while others may have hazards like steep banks or poison ivy (look out for the red icons!). Let's do this together! Can't wait to see you all there! Let's make this year's Cleanup the best one yet.

I had an amazing time at the Our Juneteenth Celebration! Huge shoutout to Jewels of Africa and Mama Jewel for organizing another successful year of honoring Freedom Day. It was wonderful to engage in conversations about the Mayor's Grand River Cleanup and the Climate Action Campaign. On Juneteenth we celebrate Black culture and the significance of Freedom Day, marking the liberation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Let's take this moment to acknowledge the progress we've made while recognizing the ongoing work needed to achieve true equality and justice for all. By amplifying Black voices, supporting Black-owned businesses, and educating ourselves on the history and contributions of Black individuals, we can move towards a more inclusive and equitable future together.

  • Happy Juneteenth! 🎆 A national holiday only as of 2021, June 19th has long been celebrated in the African American community as our nation’s second #IndependenceDay, when Union troops marched into Galveston Bay in Confederate-controlled Texas and declared 250,000+ enslaved Texans to be legally emancipated. This monumental occurred 2.5 YEARS after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation freeing enslaved Americans in formerly Confederate states. #Juneteenth is also known as “Freedom Day!” Read more about the history here: https://buff.ly/3l5jJhH Everyone is welcome to join the celebrations in #GrandRapids today! Enjoy a public Juneteenth block this afternoon (now until 7PM, https://buff.ly/3VuLpP0) then catch an event & film at Wealthy Cinema from 5-9PM (https://buff.ly/4c2k7X8). Booked today? Check out the public Juneteenth block party happening Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Oakdale and Eastern (https://buff.ly/3KOqFwq). #grandrapidsjuneteenth
